Here is my scrappy tube quilt..I am taking pictures with my phone and can't zoom in focus or get a good shot..lol. But I think from these you will get the jist of what it looks like...Love that Tutorial...may use some more of my 2.5 inch strips to make another.
I used my left over HST to make the corner stones in my border..Could not get a good shot of those so I took the corner shot.... Hope you all have a good night!

Good show!
I got a request last night for a lap robe for one of our veterans who has gone in to a nursing home ... I am thinking Red/White/Blue and a focus Marine fabric ... hadn't considered that there would be that reversal of the tube colors ... had you not posted your picture, I don't know how it escaped me! LOL
That looks like a winner of a quilt to me! <wave>

Wow - that's attractive! What size did your blocks turn out to be?

Janstar 11-13-2009 07:51 PM

Nice job and I love your colors!

SaraSewing 11-13-2009 08:59 PM

Help me understand how you did it scrappy? The tutorial said to make long pieces of 2.5 inch wide. So did you have shorter lengths to cut into the triangles, or what? I absolutely love this one!!

bopeep 11-13-2009 09:08 PM

:) :)
I Love that......soooooo Beautiful.
I saw that tut ...I really want to try it.

When you make your first initial cut it is actually smaller than the other cuts and also the ending cut--so they are just regular HST ( not blocks) so I put all of mine together and made the corner stones. Could not waste a thing you know!

I will HELP you!
They will rue the day that they let us in there (oh, yes! I will be there, too, and I have a PLAN!)
I was thinking about how to make those tube quilts scrappy, and I was reminded of a tip I read in some book.
The lady cut full width strips, a whole bunch of different ones. Then, she cut one in half and started sewing the strips, just butting the next one up against the one that was running out.
She didn't think that there was much waste (and, if you are in to scrappy, there will not be ANY waste <g>) ... but, it allows the colors to move through the quilt, be scrappy, but not too many of a certain combination to look stilted - - if that is a good descriptive word.
<wave>

I have a basket full of scraps ( strips) cut 2.5 inches wide. SO I just grabbed all of my pink and black strips from that basket sewed them together and then sewed a big white strip to them to make the tube. I did color coordinate these scraps...but you don't have to do that..there will be a clash of color no matter what you do because every other square you cut will have the opposite color combo--so you can mix and match. DId I answer what you wanted me to? I had different lengths..because I used scraps ...when you cut a tube you will see that the first and last cut will be HST ( you can make them all HST..if you wanted to) ..let me know if i didn't tell you what you wanted to know.

thismomquilts 11-14-2009 05:43 AM
