Pinwheels or no pinwheels.... that is the question
 

I wanted to make this panel just a little bit bigger for a good sized baby quilt. I have a little great niece who is coming in August and since her Grandpa (my brother) just died, I wanted to make something a little extra special for her. I made these pinwheels to go around the outer edges as a border. See what you think, will they work? Or should I go back to just a plain solid color?

Love the pinwheels - I see pink binding ------------see what the experts suggest. Is she old enough for some bling?? Maybe some jewels on the animals saddles? She will love however you do it.

I too love the pinwheels and it suggest spinning to me which seems appropriate for the carousel theme. Love it.

I love the idea of jewls on the saddle and some more bling! But, don't think it would be safe for a newborn. I might find something silver rick-rack to bedazzle it a little bit. thanks for the idea!!

I love the pinwheels! Bind it in that beautiful pink. A very nice quilt.

This is what I had in mind too when I first saw it. Then the pink border, or you could also find a print (even floral) that has the pink and yellow or pink, yellow and green in the fabric. The border doesn't need to be a solid color. You could make the quilt label for the back out of a pinwheel also. Very cute quilt, will fit perfectly for her. IMHO

So far, it's unanimous. Love the pinwheels and a pink binding. She'll love it (and so would I).

I went back and looked at the panel a couple of times -

The pinwheels appear to be the right color - but I think they detract from the carousel in the center. To me, they make the merry-go-round seem really small. Also - the other lines in the panel are curves and arcs - and the pinwheels are pointy.

They won't make the quilt look 'bad' - I just think something 'softer' would be better to try to make the top larger.

I did appreciate all of the other comments and there were a lot of good points made. I'm planning on doing another one of these so I might try some of the other suggestions on it. Thanks!!!!

I think children and pinwheels go together. The pinwheels with a pink binding is my vote also.
