Play House

4 Attachment(s)
I just finished this little playhouse for my “Grand’s” today. No pattern. Just thinking; what do I want on the house, how do I get it there, etc. I’m very happy with the results. Oops....guess I could have cropped the photos first.....sigh.....

Very cute!

And it is a “working” mail box. :-)

Oh what fun ... your Grands will love it!!!

This could be a project that will never end by adding more to it, as ideas come to you.

How about a tree or two?
Sun and clouds in the sky?
Birds and other critters?

Very cute, they will love it

Mariposa 05-30-2018 07:31 PM

Yes, I thought of a few other things.....like a car, a fire department, a police department, school bus, etc, etc. I decided it would be never-ending and my canvas was not big enough....hahaha.

I did satisfy my childhood memories though. When I was a kid :-) my mom bought a washer/dryer (combination). (late 1950’s). In thoses days the appliances came in cardboard boxes. Yes, it was a pretty big box. I got to have the box. I cut out the windows and door. I colored the outside with flowers and on the inside I colored “inside house things”. (Can’t say what now). Anyway, I played in my “house” for several years. I kept thinking about my playhouse and decided to make one for my Grand’s. I hope they will have as much fun with this version as I did with my box and have great memory’s of “going to grandmas house”. My play house is one of the very best memories of my childhood.

So clever! I wish I had thought of that when my grandkids were young. In my day, we just threw blankets over the table, but this is so much cuter. I would love to make one that looks like a tree house.

Darcyshannon 05-30-2018 11:28 PM

That is so awesome. I hope they have fun with it. Very thoughtful to remember how much fun you had with your play house and to make one for the young ones.

I love the special memories of childhood play. They will have many hours of fun in the play house. You did a great job!

quilterpurpledog 05-31-2018 03:16 AM

There is a lot of fun to be had at Grandma's house. Fun project for you to make and fun for them to play in.

bjgallent 05-31-2018 03:19 AM

What a cute house. Love the mailbox, window, and all the flowers. Kids love to play where they can crawl in. I made a tent for mine out of rip stock nylon. They used it for years.

Joset 05-31-2018 04:24 AM

that is so cute. great job

PaperPrincess 05-31-2018 04:28 AM

Wonderful job! I also have fond memories of playing with appliance boxes...

Tartan 05-31-2018 04:41 AM

Cute house!

SillySusan 05-31-2018 05:26 AM

What great imagination you have! Really cute! I'm sure they'll love it and remember it forever. I think maybe a flag pole with a changeable flag... USA, Spring, Summer, Halloween, Christmas, etc. attached with Velcro, maybe, so they could change it? And, maybe a cat in the flowers? :)

Homespun 05-31-2018 06:02 AM

That is too, too cute!

nativetexan 05-31-2018 06:07 AM

Oh so very cute!! great job! i wanted to make my greatgrandkids a tent but my son nixed it. they do tend to tear apart everything they touch!!!

Jordan 05-31-2018 06:27 AM

That is so adorable and cute as can be. I remember when I was young-I used a blanket to cover a table and just loved how cozy it was to play in there. Your "grands" are going to love their new house. How exciting for them.

JanelleTrebuna 05-31-2018 06:49 AM

Adorbs. What a great idea! Does it just slip over the top of a card table?

Ellen 1 05-31-2018 07:52 AM

Yes, it just slips over the card table. Very easy to pop on and off..

lblank42 05-31-2018 07:53 AM

Wonderful! They'll love it.

Wish I had thought about the flag pole. That would have been a great “teaching” tool. Not going back to add stuff though. So happy to be done and have had success with the project.

Ahhh, great to have someone that has had the same experience. My husband just “looks” at me when I told him about the “box”.

ArtsyOne 05-31-2018 08:49 AM

I remember hiding under a table covered with blankets too. Nice and cozy and I could read with a flashlight. Your grandkids are going to love this so much!

lynnie 05-31-2018 08:59 AM

wonderful, can I come over to play?

red-warrior 05-31-2018 09:32 AM

Well done and sure to be a big hit!

Teen 05-31-2018 05:58 PM

BrendaK 05-31-2018 06:05 PM

Adorable. A lot of us remember what it was like to just go into your little house and close the world out for a while. I bet that they will love getting mail out of the mailbox from grandma. You did a super job. BrendaK

Oh my...that is adorable. I like the way you did the door. The flowers are so pretty..are they made of felt?

SusieQOH 06-01-2018 07:03 AM

Love it! I had one as a child that my mom made out of muslin and stitched a door and window, etc. on it. Fun memories!

The entire playhouse is made with denim. I pinned the main fabric on my longarm and laid the green fabric on top and quilted the grass and flower stems. I then cut away the extra green fabric. Then I laid the flowers (fussy cut) on and quilted them down. And that was the beginning. :-) In this photo, the flowers are now sewn down yet.

Forgot to say I used the foam stabilizer/interfacing on the brown of the door and the pink windows.
