I found this at the thrift store tonight and I wasn't gonna get it even though it looked so sad sitting there for $2.99 My 6 year old daughter said "but mom it's so soft! You would be sad if one of your quilts ended up here. Lets take it home and love it" And so we did! It just makes me wonder who sat there all that time making it only for it to get sent to the thrift store :( It's so pretty!

It is pretty and it will look so nice thrown over a chair back during the holidays. Nice save!

BrandyMcCoy 05-26-2011 05:41 PM

cute, and your daughter sounds so sweet:)

quilthappygail 05-26-2011 05:45 PM

So sad that they couldn't find a child to give it to. It was probably the wrong color for the room or house so out it went. Very sad, but now you have a lovely quilt to love as your daughter said.

It's a darling quilt. Your daughter thinks just like us. She is a quilter in the making.

MoMiMi 05-26-2011 06:00 PM

All it needed was a little love.

luvstitches 05-26-2011 06:02 PM

I am so happy you rescued it, I just love going to the thrift stores, Goodwill stores, used book stores.

Sweet!

NikkiLu 05-26-2011 07:07 PM

Is it flannel? It does look soft.

wannaquilt1 05-26-2011 07:17 PM

Thanks everyone! Yes, she is a wonderful little lady! We were at the thrift store looking to see if they had a little machine she could learn to sew on cuz she wants to make a quilt so that was really cute. It's actually cotton woven and has a really nice print fabric on the back too so it wasn't made cheaply like I make mine LOL.

It is super soft! I washed it and was just sitting watching tv and knitting with it on my lap. it is super comfy! It's nice because all the quilts I've made so far I've given away so now I have one for me! I feel like someone out there made this for me LOL

A treasure!

Smart little girl!!! She already knows that love doesn't necessarily match everyone's decor. So glad you rescued it!!

blueangel 05-26-2011 08:43 PM

It's a very pretty quilt. Lucky for you.

dhanke 05-26-2011 08:50 PM

Oh Mama, what a lovely little girl you have, such a sweetheart! The quilt will mean so much more to you with such a sweet story to go with it.

montanajan 05-26-2011 08:53 PM

Quilts deserve to be rescued. Nice quilt & sweet daughter.

normasews 05-26-2011 08:54 PM

I'm so glad you rescued it. I've done the same thing a couple of times. Just because I know how much goes into making these.

Lilrain 05-26-2011 09:03 PM

your daughter already has the heart of a quilter. it's like seeing a nice quilt used to wrap furniture on the back of a pickup when someone is moving, and it flaps in the wind. or you make a nice quilt for a child and then see the family dog with it

BETTY62 05-26-2011 09:54 PM

I would have given it a home too. Your DD knows how quilts should be treated.

Joan 05-26-2011 09:59 PM

Your daughter has great empathy---you should be so proud.

I remember going to a garage sale and seeing a simple Christmas Wall Hanging. Like yours, it was uncomplicated and mostly just green and red blocks. You can imagine my shock  when the garage sale lady said, "Oh, my MIL made that for us....." Like you, I bought it and gave it a good home.

earthwalker 05-27-2011 02:27 AM

A born "rescuer", very sweet story and the quilt is delightful - good "save".

Vickymomof6 05-27-2011 02:45 AM

Your 6 year old has much insight on what you do and how you feel about it! She deserves a {hug}

Vicky

LoriEl 05-27-2011 02:50 AM

Your daughter certainly has a quilter's heart! I often see family pictures at flea markets and a "junk" store in town and feel so sad for the people in the pics. It's like, why aren't they wanted anymore. I hope my pics and quilts never end up that way!

Krystyna 05-27-2011 03:00 AM

Your daughter has a quilter's heart!

I was thinking the same thing.

MrsM 05-27-2011 03:39 AM

I think your daughter is wonderful! What a kind soul for a six year old. :)

Marion T 05-27-2011 03:54 AM

You did the right thing giving it a home. I once passed up on a little quilt in a thrift store, and I've regretted it ever since.

Blinkokr 05-27-2011 04:12 AM

Great find, you could add a few appliques to it and give it new life.
Have a blessed day
Ellen

jhoward 05-27-2011 04:23 AM

You've taught your 6 yr old well.

GladGrams 05-27-2011 04:29 AM

You have a very loving child.
