Wow this is going to be really something--How can you keep track of all the different fabrics since my understanding is that there should be no duplicates--Going to watch for this & hope you post pictures as you go along Good Luck

Wow I have seen the postage stamp quilt and would love to make one....dont know if I will ever have the patience or the experience to do one ...lol....Good luck pm address and I will send some of my scraps so you will have some from GA

I made a postage stamp quilt - 2,500 1" squares and I thought THAT was a lot! I sewed them in rows of 10, then sewed 10 rows together, then joined the resulting blocks. In order to make the rows match perfectly, I drew 1" lines onto tracing paper, then "paper pieced" the squares on. I trimmed the rows to 1 1/2", then ripped the paper off before adding another row. This method worked well and all my seams matched perfectly. I don't know if that was cheating or not, but it sure got the job done.

Wow that is great. This board is the best, most are such wonderful people. God bless.

Look forward to seeing your progress...what an exciting project!

It will be so much fun to watch your progress. Just enjoy the process. Keep us posted, we will all be following with you.

We are watching you!! Please keep us updated, this is going to be interesting.

Your cutting table looks just like my entire sewing room LOL. I have a small path where I walk and where I sit, and the rest is fabric and projects in progress.
|
I sure hope you're going to use the June Taylor Shape Cutter!!! Cutting will go much faster.

Things are progressing nicely. I am ironing all the scraps and sorting them.
Thank you everyone who has sent scraps! For those that have offered on this thread to send some. Right now I am seeing where I am at. If I come up short I would love for you to help. Or if you just wanted to be apart of the quilt you can send a few scraps I would love for as many people as wanted to be apart of this. If the person who sent me a big flat rate box from Idaho is reading this please Pm me. I would love to thank you in Pm for such a generous gift! Thank you! |

It is packed as we have our house for sale. If I ever get to unpack my stuff then maybe I will give it another go! |
What design are you using to make this quilt. I am very intrigued
|
I am also making a postage stamp quilt. I have been cutting block and want to use different fabrics also. Never thought of asking for scraps from other quilters. I will have to ask my quilting quild for scraps. Thank you so much for the hint. Do you have enough scraps. Would love to send you some.

I have cut quite a few one and one half inch squares.
I use a larger square or rectangle template that has needed markings in one corner. Gets a little distance between holding hand or fingers and cutting tool. Cut two sides then rotate fabric 180 degrees (a half turn of piece of fabric being cut). Now cut two sides and square is complete. |
*UPDATE*
Thanks everyone for the comments. I have not been able to work much on the postage stamps this week. I have all of the scraps ironed and ready for cutting So now begins the fun part. I am still playing around with a design I am not sure what I am going to do. I have been working on making a design but I am not sure yet. Update to those that have sent scraps and want scraps in return I have not been able to mail anything this week. It has been real crazy. We have our house up for sale and we had 3 showings and a open house in the last 4 days So I am unable to make a mess hehe. I will get scraps cut out and start to mail them this week Sorry for the delay No pictures today as not much to show but just wanted to give an update |
I am so impressed. Can't wait to see how it turns out :)

WOW! To have a huge project going like this AND have your home on the market is a HUGE undertaking Girl. I think you will have the most awesome quilt when it is done though! I admire your stamina, patience and determination. Keep up the great work!

AbbyQuilts, I've enjoyed reading through this thread this evening and found it by loading in "postage stamp quilt" in search and finding you. Cute work area, so familiar to me. I've made several postage stamp quilts and use them in potholders, aprons, hot mitts, vests, and to cover old ts and sweats. I buy fabric, and that same day try to cut my strips. All my pieces are generally 1.25" finished, which means I have to cut everything 1.75". Then I sew a light and a dark of sundry fabrics together, cut those 1.75" perpendicular to the first stitch line to get tiny 3" four patches. I put all the darks running from northwest to southeast. Often the dark and the light fabric are close in value, which renders each quilt to have a slightly different look. I mix them sometimes, and other times, I pick which goes where. I try to use only one of each fabric in the smaller quilts (under or around 40x60") and keep light and dark pairs in dozens of filled 2-gallon zip-locking clear plastic bags, and I have about 3 65-gallon bins full of the plastic bags with twosies in them. I've been doing this for several years now, and it's as much fun to sit down and sew 100 pairs together like I did in a couple of hours yesterday evening, and look forward to sewing some more. Please, please please keep up the good work and take a picture and share it of your progress to date like the ones you showed on page 1 as soon as you can. All of us here would like to encourage you to keep after this project and hope your life is at a place where you can devote even 15 minutes a day to your project. |
I can visualize the beauty of it all!

How is your quilt coming along? :-D

a little piece of everyone who sent fabric will be in your quilt, how great is that! Our line of work has isolated us and it is wonderful to be reminded of the goodness and generosity of folks even if it is a small scrap of fabric!

Wow! Quite an undertaking Abby! I'm in the 1.5" postage stamp swap here on QB...just mailed in my 500 last week...can't wait to get my 500 back...I love to see what other quiltmakers pick when it comes to fabric. I thought I'd be burned out after cutting those teeny tiny squares for the swap, but it actually became addicting! I'm cutting more, using scraps in my stash so that I can use them for corner stones and such in future projects. Have fun with it!

good luck, looks like wasy too much work for me
