Practicing my FMQ - tabletopper

2 Attachment(s)
I just finished this table topper (actually its a lapquilt - but fits perfect on my large coffee table) - I made myself FMQ without taking any of the quilting out. Normally, I would be beating myself up over the quilting - I really want to do better and I know this is the only way. Now that I am done - you really don't notice all the flaws - so I am learning and part of that is acceptance. So here it is:

nice quilting..

Monika 08-12-2012 04:42 PM

I think the quilting is great. You are too hard on yourself!!!

crazythread 08-12-2012 04:42 PM

Looks fine to me!!! I am in the middle of teaching myself to machine quilt and I do a lot of tearing out. When the project is finished, you are right, the flaws do not show up. In all realty the flaws do not show to anyone but you. That is unless you send them to the "Quilt Police" (and no one does that LOL). Your work is beautiful and will only get better....Hang in there

lynnie 08-12-2012 04:51 PM

Im 53,beenhand quilting since I'm 7.

Congrats to you for jumping in.

joyce888 08-12-2012 06:18 PM

Very very nice.

csharp 08-12-2012 06:22 PM

Very Nice, I too, have to just jump in and "do it." Would love to have a LA do my stuff, but I don't ever want to wait to see the complete finished project. You did great.

kathdavis 08-12-2012 07:07 PM

I think it really looks good. a nice variety.

debcavan 08-12-2012 07:11 PM

And you will become better and better the more you do. Your quilting looks great You also have to remember we look at things as a whole when we looks at someone's quilt. That individual little wiggle you didn't like, we don't even see. I love the colors in your quilt too

Maggiemay 08-12-2012 07:25 PM

Keep up the good work! You did a great job!

krysti 08-12-2012 07:34 PM

Good for you just jumpin in there! And it looks great, too! I tried to FMQ on a border; even after practicing on a couple square sandwiches, and it was awful; I had to rip it out. I guess I'll just have to keep trying and maybe someday mine will look good like yours.

wvdek 08-12-2012 07:40 PM

Looks great. Alot better than what I have tried.

tbex 08-12-2012 07:42 PM

beautiful. I feel the same way when i am FMQ. I like how you said acceptance is part of the process. Love it.

I love this little quilt! The fabrics are wonderful! And your FMQing is fabulous! Cut yourself so slack!

busy fingers 08-12-2012 11:32 PM

Well done - nice and even and flowing.

There seems to be something about FMQ that makes me break into a sweat. I need to think about the design for a couple of days and trace it out in my head before I make a start.

BrendaK 08-12-2012 11:38 PM

You did kool. Keep on truckin'. BrendaK

I love your fmq! I too, dove right in doing my quilting on each of the quilts I've made. I hate the mistake areas, but I'm probably the only one who stares at those areas. My beginning quilts are also my beginng fmq projects. Each one does seem to improve. Thank's for sharing.

lfstamper 08-13-2012 02:28 PM

Great job!

Drue 08-13-2012 02:30 PM

Hope I can do as well as you when I finally make myself do the FMQ....At this point I use my embroidery machine for my quilting and it's working well...I just want to be able to break free and do the FMQ...probably need a VERY SWIFT KICK IN THE PATOOTIE! I even bought a mid arm frame but haven't added the machine to it yet...just soooo unsure about all this and don't know anyone around here that can guide me. I even bought the Craftsy FMQ class in December and haven't gotten past the intro! Anyway...Keep up the good work girl and I think you're doing great!

HUGS

You did a great job! It's a very pretty quilt.

scrappy2 08-14-2012 01:24 PM

I think your quilting looks great. I wish I could do what you have done.

I have been trying FMQ. I took the Craftsy FMQ and have been practicing. Also can't get my thread from looping on the bottom:(. Keep making tension adjustment but still alittle looping going on. To get where you are at I will keep trying.

Thanks for posting your quilt.
Now I'm headed back to my sewing room to practice.
