Here is a pic of the prayer square I made for our Pastor who had quadruple bypass surgery today. I have included a pic of the book it came from. The title of the block is "Steps to the Altar" and the scripture is Matthew 11:28-30. For a prayer square, you tie instead of quilt. Then people say a prayer for the recipient as they tie a knot. They are small enough to tuck in a bag, set on a nightstand, etc.

Nice gift pray your Pastor is alright

Here's to a speedy recovery for your Pastor.
What a great idea ... and your book looks like it'd be interesting! For prayer squares .... is the intention that the maker keeps it to continue the prayers? or do you now give it to your Pastor? |
What a great idea, thanks for sharing. I will keep this in my bag of tricks for future reference.
Hope your Pastor gets well quickly. |

FYI, the 2nd picture of the book you mentioned is not showing. Or maybe you are still posting it? Now you have me curious as to what the block is called, and its significance as explained in the book. Care to share? Please? and Thanks!
|
What a nice thing to do!
|
What an appropriate block and keepsake. I hope he knows there are more prayers being said than knots. I do hope he is recovering well.
|
very nice.

what a unique idea, may just check the library for the book.
|
awe, how neat is that! Hope your pastor recovers well!

Whoops, double post. My apologies.

We do prayer quilts in our church. Lap size or a little larger in any pattern the quilter wishes. It is on the altar rail during the morning service when needed, then moved to a corner of the community room afterwards. The congregation prays corporately for the person, then individually as each congregation member who wishes to ties a knot or two. Recipients have found the blanket of prayers very powerful.
I was just on the Prayers and Squares website. there is a pattern for making a large cross in the backing. That has definite possibilities. gzulivz, your Prayer Square is lovely. Your pastor will feel the love that has gone into it. I just realized what your name says. |

What a great idea! I'll have to file this one away for future use....I can also imagine a tied quilt done the same way, with lots of ties tied by lots of people....OK, maybe not a king sized---but a twin might work!
