Pretty Pin Cushions

2 Attachment(s)
Hello all, I just finished these five "Cathedral Window" pin cushions. The pattern comes from Foot Loose & Fancy Free, and is by Sandra Grace Lister. If interested in the free pattern (PDF download), you can go to www.footloosenfancyfree.com.
When I saw the pattern (quite some time ago), I knew I wanted to try it. These were NOT EASY!!! I think they must have taken about 3 hours each....well, maybe I exaggerate a little, but they are certainly a lot of fussy work! Even so, I love the results!
I was sewing buttons on at work yesterday, and a fellow suggested he'd have to get one from me (his girlfriend is a crafter). I didn't make them to sell, and for all the work, not to mention the buttons (up to $2.50/each), I think my price would have to be pretty high.
Thanks for looking!

So very pretty! And if you could enlarge them...wouldn't they make pretty sofa pillows? Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful pin cushions. I especially like the button embellishments. So much bling.

Thanks for the link, DebraK.

Thanks, DebraK, I was repeating information from the pattern itself, and assumed a person could find it. I suppose it's so old, one would have to contact that website with a personal message. Anyway, thank you for coming to the rescue.

And thanks to all you other ladies for the kind remarks. Right after I posted the pics, I saw a loop of thread that I missed (first pin cushion on the left - Christmas fabrics) and had to make a repair!

RedGarnet222 06-06-2014 08:36 AM

Beautiful work! I love that last green one. SO pretty all of them though.

I am just wondering if the tutorial that eddie did here on the board would be of use to anyone making these?

northern lass 06-06-2014 08:46 AM

Really lovely

feline fanatic 06-06-2014 08:51 AM

Those are STUNNING. I actually have a hunk of that christmas fabric in my stash, I picked it up at an estate sale. DebraK, thanks for the link to the pattern. I probably would not attempt this without such an excellent tute with pictures. Very nice pin cushion and I agree with Irishgal, the button bling is the best part.

DebraK 06-06-2014 09:44 AM

your welcome ;-) I happened to have the link saved from my Internet travels. Your pin cushions knock my socks off. Great color combos and buttons. Really, really nice!

Now that I have had a chance to read the pattern at the modabakeshop, I can say there is less fabric waste with the Footloose pattern. I still think it might be worth asking about it via the Footloose web site. The pattern has very clear photos and instructions; and has two size options (but the large size is hard enough that I don't think I would attempt the smaller one). Oh, and there is a button on the back as well as the front. But I must thank you again for coming to the rescue.

If you google cathedral window pin cushion, their are a few tutorials out there to choose from.

good to hear your feedback.

Wow! Your pincushions are beautiful! Love your choice of fabrics.

sassy granny 06-06-2014 05:11 PM

Absolutely beautiful. The buttons make them so special and your choice of fabrics is fantastic. Some times patterns are only on a site for a short time. Would it be possible for you to download your copy of the pattern and post it on here ? I would love to make one for myself also. No way would I make something like that to sell. No way you could get paid enough.

lauriejo 06-06-2014 05:26 PM

Oh my goodness those are exquisite! Your fabric choices (and bling) just knock my socks off. I did a little internet wandering and found a tute that looks like it is the one you referenced. http://www.favecrafts.com/Sewing/Cathedral-Pin-Cushion

Jeanniejo 06-06-2014 05:37 PM

I love them! You used great fabrics! Not surprised people want to buy them.

DebraK 06-06-2014 05:44 PM

that site reminds me that I think I've seen the pattern at Craftsy, as well.
