Here is a pic of the top before I put the borders on. This is the project I had so much trouble getting enlarged to print out.
This is the same one that I have basted at this point, and it needs to be re-basted because of puckers.
Thanks for everyone's suggestions.

I hand-dyed the background fabric and the yellow for the eyes/nose/mouth. Since I've gotten the borders on, it looks much better.

I used varigated thread to sew around all the appliques. I used orange around the pumpkins and green around the leaves.

I love it!!!!!

[detour/scenery quote] I like it because it suits me so well. Any time I get off on a wrong route somehow, I like to think of it as an adventure. :D

We often take the backroads just for fun. There is so much we miss by staying on the main highways sometimes. It's amazing what you can see out there. Usually, the time we make is just as good as or better than highway time because it cuts out a lot of traffic problems. :D

Pzazz 10-17-2009 05:06 PM

Ditto on the backroads...My hubby prefers the interstates when available...I would just as soon take the smaller highways.

Posting question...I have tried, but can't figure out how to put a quote in that nice little box. Tips, pls? Thx :)

ladybugquilter 10-17-2009 05:10 PM

Great job!!! You should be proud. I love the fabric and can't believe you dyed it yourself. What did you use for the fabric? Again great job.

Above each person's new post, there is a light blue line...right above your screen name...follow it all the way across to the top right corner at each person's new post there is a "quote" button. Just click it. Did that make sense?

Thanks! It means so much to hear these compliments. I LOVE dying fabric! The fabric I dyed was just some white muslin.

I can't stand it any longer, so here is a picture of the top with the borders. It is basted in this pic, so that's what the big stitches are! AND the reason the stitches are so far apart on the pumpkins is that it is just holding some extra batting for more fluff in the pumpkin area. The rest of the quilt is basted closer together and better, BUT I do still have to re-baste because of those puckers. I just wanted to share!

Here is a pic where you can see the backing fabric. The backing is just something that popped out at me at WM. I thought it would be fun to have something very different on the back, and it fit the theme. ;)

Too late now, but I wish I would've used a darker yellow fabric on the bottom pumpkin. The orange is very bright and the yellow blends a little too much with it. I may use some darker colored thread to quilt around the eyes, nose, and mouth on this pumpkin.

Pzazz 10-18-2009 10:50 AM

OL ok...so I got the quote part, but not the box. :(

sewnsewer2 10-18-2009 10:55 AM

Cute!

Quilt4u 10-18-2009 10:57 AM

That is so cute.

wvdek 10-18-2009 11:27 AM

Just imagine the softer yellow pumpkin has frost on it. Maybe when you quilt it, you could use a thread with a sparkle!
Just leaving it is way too cute also. Looks great.

Hmmm...that's odd. I just go to the end of the person's quote where the "]" is and click my mouse there and usually hit the space bar to make sure I'm in the right place. You can also choose to "Preview" (right beside "submit") your post instead of "Submit" to see what it looks like first. Keep trying! ;)

Thanks to everyone for all the compliments and suggestions.

"Frosty the pump-kin..." I may just quilt with some darker thread around the yellow on that one. I haven't had a chance to touch it this weekend.

How very fun! I love your hand dyed fabrics. Great job, hon.

What a cute, fun wallhanging!!! I love it and that you dyed your own fabric, too!!! Good Job :D :D :D

ButtercreamCakeArtist 10-19-2009 05:05 AM

I really LOVE dying fabric. I could go downstairs with a truckload of dye and an endless supply of fabric and stay for days!

ranger 10-19-2009 05:33 AM

Your wall hanging is so cute and fun!
Your hand dyed fabrics are wonderful.

That is such a cute wall hanging. I love the expressions on the pumpkins faces. Great job.

ButtercreamCakeArtist 10-21-2009 07:25 PM

Oh, goodness! This project has given me trouble almost every time I've touched it!
So, I went with the spray basting when I re-basted...
I began quilting (with my machine), and was that ever a nightmare! Bulky, bulky, bulky trying to quilt. When rolling up the quilt to get it to fit, it puckers worse than before I re-basted! It's looking like crap! Maybe part of my problem is from the extra batting that went in the center under the pumpkins.

I hope it turns out to look halfway like a rectangle when finished! I hope to find some more time to work on it tomorrow. I really hope it doesn't end up being as big of a disappointment to me as I anticipate. I'll keep everyone updated. Maybe it won't turn out too bad to post pics of!!1 :( :(

Miranda,

Stop being so hard on yourself. Your wall hanging is wonderful and if there is some oops in there it's okay that's what makes it handmade. :D Remember each project is about learning and getting better. No one judges us harsh than ourselves, so step back, take a deep breath and just in joy the process :D

I was very aggravated with this project last night. I am ready to go in and tackle it again this morning.
I sure have learned a lot with this one! Thank you for the encouragement.

Oh, and I just realized you are from Maine! Maine is on top of my "states I want to visit" list! :)

ladybugquilter 10-22-2009 05:26 AM

It didn't turn out as bad as I thought it was going to!! I had a really hard time quilting it in my regular sewing machine. I don't think I'll go larger for a while, yet! YIKES!

Great job on the quilting, I LOVE how you outlined the pumpkins. Give yourself a huge pat on the back!!!!

Thank you very much! It does look pretty good! hehe. I'm pretty pleased, but when that thing was under the machine, it looked like a nightmare! Wrinkles everywhere. I really tried to stretch it tight where I was quilting at. I guess I must've done something right.
The only thing I really wish I could've done differently is to have been able to have made my rows of stitching more even. One of the quilting guides would have been nice, but I seriously don't see how that would work with all the bulk under the machine. I couldn't even keep my presser foot raised bc I kept popping it back down when trying to move the bulk! Oh, well. I wasn't going to take the time to draw on lines to follow because I like to go with the flow as much as I can on projects instead of following something perfectly. By the time I was almost finished, I think I was getting the hang of it. Of course, by that time, though, I was able to unroll the quilt and most of the bulk was not under my machine!

I'm relieved! :D :D :D :D
