Purple Scrappy Hunter's Star
1 Attachment(s)
I found out last week that my sister in law was in hospital, so last Sunday night I cut out the quilt, and I finished it today. I will mail it to her tomorrow. I used all the leftover purple fabric I had from another quilt plus a couple of extras. Her grandson's name is Hunter so I thought the pattern was very appropriate  To save time I thought I would attach the binding both front and back by machine, using a decorative stitch, I'm really not thrilled with the way it turned out, it seaems to have made the binding feel stiff. I think I will stick to sewing it on by hand from now on.
Thanks for looking :) |

Wow! I love the hunter star and the fabric you used are great. The binding will ease up after washing so don't stress over that. She'll love it.

Ditto...which method did you use. You did it beautifully and quickly! It's gorgeous!
The pattern I used was in an Australian Patchwork and Quilting magazine which was all rectangles. See the drawing below. You just cut out all the rectangles (you need 6 for each block, 3 light and 3 dark) and then you place one on top of the other and draw your diagonal (DD helped me with this) and sew on your line. You then attach your strips to your triangles, matching up the centre of each. You don't trim your ends until you have joined 2 triangle units together. The points on the stars are a little longer this way but I think it looks fine and it was easy to do with just your standard ruler. I'm not the best at explaining things but if anyone wants more information I can draw more pictures LOL :) |
Very pretty, love the colors!

It turned out wonderful! I like the scrappiness of it. Best wishes to your sister-in-law.
