Wonderful story, beautiful quilt....life is good!

Very pretty ~ I would be so sad if it did not make it to her. Thanks for sharing the story!

Great color choices

Love this story. Our family had a similar situation...my father's sister left California at the end of WW2, and didn't keep in touch. No one heard from her for 65 years. My grandmother spent lots of $$ and time trying to find her, but she passed away in 1990 without finding her...then my missing aunt ran into someone she knew who also knew their oldest sister, and that lady put the two sisters in touch. We got to see her twice and talk to her by phone lots of times. Unfortunately, she passed away from cancer last Fall. I love your purple quilt, and hope it made it to its destination.

I made this quilt for a recently discovered Aunt that lives in Montenegro.
(Dad had lost contact with his sister after he left the former Yugoslavia in the 1950's, her son found my brother on Facebook and now they have regular contact. They saw each other for the first time in more than 50 years on Christmas day, thanks to Skype.). I found out from her son that her favourite colour is purple so I came up with a pretty simple design in EQ. I sure hope she gets it as mail theft is common over there according to my Cousin. Hi
Thanks for all your kind comments on my quilt, you are all too kind. A few people asked on dimensions and instructions on how itwas made so here goes. I started with 10 dark 3 ½ “ squares and 8 light 3 ½” squares which I bordered witha 1 ½ “strip of a medium purple,( I sewed the strips on the sides, then the topand bottom), then another 1 ½ “ strip ofa light purple (done the same way) andthen a 1 ½”strip of white, (done the same again). Mine ended up 9 ½”square. I then cut 10 squares 9 ½” of thedark purple and 8 x 9 ½”squares of thelight purple floral. I placed 1 plain square on a pieced square matching thecentre colours and drew a line down the diagonal and then 2 lines ¼” on eitherside of the diagonal. I stitched on those outer 2 lines on all the blocks andthen cut them apart on the centre line. I squared these up to 8 ½”. These arenow your half square triangle blocks. Have fun playing with your placement. My first white border was 2 ½” the second medium purpleborder was 1 ½” and the 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] dark border was 3 ½ “. Hope this helps, let me know if I haven’t been clear withany part of it or you would like pictures of anything Sue(Woody) |
Terrific design and the colour/fabric choices are just perfect for it. I hope it arrives safely, because she is just going to love it. I am not recommending deceit but sometimes if you fear the postal service is not the most reliable, describing the contents as "used fabric" or "used clothing" may ensure it gets to the recipient. I did this for years when the boys were travelling and needed things sent from home....I did wash the undies/bedding before sending so technically it was accurate.
