Queen size Scrappy quilt using 4" squares done...with a helper...

I had pieced this quilt last winter, but it has been patiently waiting for me to quilt it (or tie it). I decided to quilt it--not in the ditch, but "beside the ditch". I like the way it turned out, but our new cat/kitten/teenager cat decided he wanted on my machine and wanted to get the thread! I've never had him do that before. He kept attacking the machine--and then finally sat down on the thread. I think he could feel it moving under his body.

Here he is pawing at the moving thread lifter while I'm sewing.

Then, he just turned around and sat down on top, making it almost impossible to see because of his tail. That was it. I asked my daughter to take him away. :)

But I did finish the quilt. It's a pure "scrappy" using 4" squares with a mixed binding (idea from here on QB). I decided to "stitch beside the ditch" as I could go much faster and this was a rather large quilt!

That is so darn cute, are cats adorable? Your quilt turned out nice looking, I like the way you quilted beside the ditch, it looks very nice. Love the cat!

LOL!!! I have a cat that would do the very same thing!! She is definitely a trip!!

Beautiful quilt - scrappys really do have a way of working out!

What a smart cat ... going to catch that pesky thread for you! Beautiful quilt - I like the look of stitch-by-the-ditch quilting.

Grandma Peg 11-03-2012 03:28 PM

Very nice quilt. Your cat seems to enjoy sewing also.

Tweety2911 11-03-2012 03:35 PM

Love your quilt & your kitty!

Beautiful quilt and kitty. Don't let your kitty get in the habit of playing with thread. Cats love to play and chew on thread and they can swallow it and then the thread gets tangled around their intestines. Expensive vet visit.

Love your scrappy quilt. And you cat.

Another gorgeous scrappy. Got to love your helper. Please give him a BIG HUG from me.

Dolphyngyrl 11-03-2012 07:32 PM

It's funny but my cat has never done that, or even gotten close to my machine or valuables. Its like she knows what to just stay away from, what is off limits. She will lay on my fabric if its on the bed, but wont touch my machine. She's super smart

Like the way you quilted your quilt. An idea to keep in mind. Your cat is very pretty, curious and playful.

catladyquilts 11-04-2012 04:06 AM

Love the quilt but absolutely adore your helper. Mine lays behind the needle so I have to keep his paws and tail out of harms way. Makes it awfully hard to move a quilt with one of the "babies" laying on it.

Machel 11-04-2012 04:23 AM

That is really cute :) Great job ! !

bettyanne14 11-04-2012 05:21 AM

The quilt looks great! I noticed that you are using Janome Horizon...I just can not get along with Horizon.....it seems so big and the dial thing always in the wrong spot..I just can't love it like I did with my old Bernins....I would be interested in knowing how you feel about your Horizon....it may just be me!

wolph33 11-04-2012 06:35 AM

It's really strange because it he just started doing this "suddenly". Hopefully it is out of his system now as he had never done that before. He did it two times that one day, but didn't do anything today while I was working on another quilt...so strange...

I know that I have to be careful--and I've stopped him from eating thread.

I have to admit that I jumped from a $200 machine (basic Pfaff) to a $2000 machine two years ago and I really like it. It is heavy and sews really, really well. It also has a lot of light. I had never owned a "high end" machine--or even ever sewn on one before, so of course, I'm happy! :)

I've never owned a Bernina and they don't seem to sell many here in Poland, so I probably won't ever get one unless we move back to the states. They certainly have a good reputation.
