I think it needs something for visual effect.

i would quilt something there.

my first thought was candy canes you could place them to form hearts - i'd draw it out first to make sure the candy cane doesn't get lost when you place them into hearts.

you could do mittens instead or alternate both ideas

I like mittens could add hat and scarf too

your batting is what determines the width. it should have a recommendation on the label. if you don't know what to quilt there, how about just a SID?
