I would alternate the colors for the flying geese.

I'm sure the lucky kid that receives it will love it however you decide to make it.

I just thought of something else. I could put the large center block in the middle of the back and use the 4 smaller blocks on the front with flying geese or something bordering them. Trying to do the calculations for a balanced look around all the blocks with that big one in the middle is proving to be very tedious because the measurements are not equal between the large block and the smaller blocks.

i would do many colors, kind of like scrolling thru a color wheel. it would give even more movement to the quilt with all the colors.

I would use the blue for the border. When a kid looks at it all they'll see is the center.

I think that side borders would be great! Use all the colours and make it colourful!

Your idea is a good one to make side borders and then you can finish it off by bordering all sides to complete the look.

Lots of good suggestions here. I don't have any to add, but do want to say that it's going to be a wonderful quilt that someone is going to absolutely love.

I made a wall hanging for my DH a long time ago... it needed a border (I was new to quilting at the time). I decided to take two shades of gray and make "tire tracks". Turned out great, but took me forever! I used a template cut from cardboard, I'm sure there was a simpler way, but you do what you know with the tools you have. :)
