Here are a couple pics of some fabric I have for a QFK quilt. The panel with the sashing I added is approx. 24"X40". My question is this, I don't want to make it a whole lot longer, but want to make it wider. I was thinking of making pinwheels, 4 patches, or something along that line of the red (looks orange in the pic) the blue, green and yellow. But I only want to put them on the sides, not the top and bottom. Will this look funky? The brown mottle will be the border fabric, and the motorcycles on blue will be the backing. I will welcome any suggestions offered. Help!!!! I don't have a whole lot of the motorcycles on blue to add some to the front.

Why not keep it simple and sew the colors together and make stipes for the sides just as it has the little border now. It would be bright and this is a 'kids' quilt.
Bright and fun.

I think it would look fine with something coming down the sides!!!!

just about anything coming down the sides would look nice.

i would personally do flying geese because the block suggests movement to me.

I would cut the panels apart, loosing the striped border. Then 2 rows of flying geese/pin wheels between the 2 sets of smaller panels, and a row on either side of the main panel. You could re join with narrow horizontal sashing made from the stripe. I think that this would make it look more integrated rather than just adding a row on either side.

I thought of that too, but didn't want to make it any longer than it already is. Also since it is a QFK quilt, I wanted as few seams as possible to come apart. Thanks for the ideas.

I thought of flying geese too; should I do them in just 2 of the colors or alternate the colors?

By the way, that stripe border is actually chains and tire tracks, which is why I added it.

I'm with cutting the panel apart and putting a border between the two small pictures and then putting borders on the side of the longer picture.

The person will love it no matter what you do because it is a subject they love
