The LQS is having a constest and one got four fatquarters of fabric and the theme. It has to come out 24" x 24" (got that) and you got to add one more fabric of your own choice.
I had something in mind but I am not crazzy about the outcome. The colors and the amount of fabric limited me a lot. I could need help with quilting suggestions, I think I cant do anything but SID because of all the seams and maybe go around the little flowers on the border? Do you have any idea what the theme was? I am not sure of entering that wallhanging at all but no way to make another one as the fabric is gone. detail |
Go for it!!

Go for it.

I see a Serpent fracturing serenity in the Garden of orderliness... yes, enter the contest. If there is a link to see the other contest entries, and the winner, do share that info with QB, too. Good work, as for quilting? I suggest you not quilt it too closely, give your design some breathing room. Find your most significant lines, such as the Serpent Outline, for Stitch in the ditch. you can combine stitching techniques, to best suit your Message and Design.
|
The only thing I would change, if it doesn't break the rules, is to change out your Binding from the white to to the Navy Blue you have already used. I find the white rim a bit of a distraction from your sexy snake.
|
I see the snake an what looks to be lettace or cabbage and on the other side of the snake I see flowers.
My guess for the theme: Beauty and food comes together. |
Theme ... triangles and curves?
I love it! Would definately enter it, it's gorgeous! |
Oh, I remember this - didn't you post a while back about trying to make a snake? I think you were looking for software to map it all out.
Love the way the snake came out. I remember you wanted the bottom to be sort of collapsing. Hell-ish? I forget your exact wording. The quilting should definitely emphasize the snake. I saw it right away, as did yonnikka. I don't know if the others did. I would definitely enter it. I find that appropriate titles help a lot in the smaller LQS contests. So try to convey the concept in the title. Yes, sometimes even quilters need the "Oh, I get it now" push. On the "got that?" in your op - OMG - I got it. So each one of those kaleidoscope blocks is only 2.5" square???? Insane!!!!! Did you paper piece them? WOW! The quilt will definitely have an additional WOW factor because of that. 2.5" square.   |
It's good...........enter!!!!
|
 JUST DO IT ! Swap out the white.
|
I love it and think you should go for it! It would be a shame to have spent all that time and then not show it off!
When I first saw it the thing that came to mind was: red sky at night sailor's delight, red sky in morning sailor take warning' But then we've been having lots and lots of storms this week here in Southern IL |

Hellish is not bad but I am kind of embarresed to tell the theme. DH did not have a clue........... |

 I will have to go for the green for the binding as nothing else is left and I dont get to add another fabric |
I love it!! Definitely enter. When I first saw it, I thought of the snake in the garden of evil and the struggle we have in making choices. So I would call it "Choices in the Garden". Beautiful job!
|
I would enter it. All of those tiny pieces are a big plus. I don't have a clue what the theme is.
|
I think what you have done is very creative and I wish you the very best of luck
|
I think the theme was the downfall of the garden of eden.
The snake jumps out at me. I thought the white was just the batting showing since you hadn't quilted it yet. you can do stitch in the ditch and then do the 1/4 quarter away from that as an additional ouline on the inside of the snake several time to make it have texture Looks pretty cool |

The theme is Paradise and all I could think of was the snake....I think I will name it "lost paradise". My only problem will be to write down what I was thinking and how I got the inspiration. Like I said all I could think of was a snake and the caleidoskop is the only pattern one can form a snake out with |
You make my day!! I love this board and all of you

So here's just some barely coherent ramblings: Now that's it done, I would suggest some of the quilting detail the snake to really make it stand out - maybe even a bit of trapunto. Thread painting/embroidery? Not a ton. You want to emphasize the scaly skin and slithering movement. Even if it's many echoed lines of straight stitching following the movement of the snake. Way too many words to express what I'm trying to say but I hope you understand. You want to smooth it out a bit but not too much because you want the viewer to appreciate how you worked the design into the kaleidoscope. Since the top above the snake is supposed to be all la-di-da- ville, perhaps you could FMQ some flowers into the kaleidoscopes. Paradise, no? That would contrast with.....hmmm, how do you quilt hell? Or the collapse as you originally wanted. I see you didn't go with the iphone picture your DH did - I thought that was a great idea. Do you quilt the missing pieces to show they're missing? As if they were complete kaleidoscope blocks? It is a bit messy down there....so it's hard to infer what you were trying to imply with the part of the design under the snake. :-) Hmmmm, more pondering is required. |
I agree go for it
|
yes! What a clever design.
|
Hi MTS
where are you hiding? My mothertongue is not english and you sure use a lot of complicated words. I dont think it will be possible to make any FMQ because of all the seams. The bottom is also troughout kaleidoskope pattern, to make an impression of "falling apart" its done with the same fabric and the picture does not show that. But in real you see the single segments as the fabric is kind of a blender |
What a great design. Go for it
|
It's great! It's amazing, your work is so good.I wouldn't hesitate to enter it.That snake is so exotic looking.

That would be great and I will have something to look at if I get up.............its 2.45 a.m. in Zermatt
thanks all |
Whatta ya got to lose? GO FOR IT :!: :!: :!:
|
Just quilt it with CC. (continuous curves.) ()() around each piece. there isn't a key on the keyboard to make a curve for a diamond lol... I love it. You should enter it. Since your binding isn't Done yet you should do the binding in red or the blue it would look great.

Your piece really captures the imagination. I definitely see the serpent and think of the Garden of Eden when I see it. It's so easy to imagine it slithering... as your use of color and design has really made this come to life. This is a beautiful work of art and you should definitely enter the contest IMHO!
|
And where are Adam and Eve??
|
I think you should definitely enter the contest!
|
Absolutely enter it. We are always our worst critic. Trust in your ability and share it with your community. Thanks for sharing with us.
As for your DH, my DH took 5 minutes to realize the quilt my Mom made for him was an Elvis quilt, and Elvis is "the bomb" to him. Men don't quite get it all the time. On the other hand, I couldn't tell you what he's doing when working on the car, either. |
That's excellent! Definitely a winner!
|
go for it.
