This newest finish was the most fun I’ve had in a long time making a quilt. As I started creating blocks and laying this out it kept a smile on my face. Sometimes a quilt is just so much fun to create. This one was a Joy. :)

Cute! Did you appliqué around all of the owl pieces?
|
That is a super treasure quilt!!! I have a granddaughter who just loves owls and so I look at everything 'owl' and this is spectacular. I am so glad you had fun making it. And, thank you for sharing it with us-especially me. I will smile all day when I think of it. In fact, I think I will print a picture of it.

Adorable. Some little girl is going to be so happy!

it came out cute. I too am curious about the stitching around the pieces. Is it an applique stitch, zig zag, or what kind of stitch. also, how big is it. a lot of fun in that quilt.

So dog gone cute! I love owls. I have seen three kinds up where I live. The cutest was a tiny but full grown one that is a ground owl. He was fearless and so proud to show off his beauty.
Here is what they look like .. https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&....0.YVtlfdUQ2Wo |

Yes, it is all appliqué. I started with lots of wings, eyes & feet, then chose the body sizes/ shapes. After fusing all the parts of each owl I hung them on my wall for a few weeks. while I made all those flying geese. Something like 130 of them... then I finally started fusing the owls to blocks, machine blanket stitched each & every piece down, ( invisible thread on top, white Aurifil in bobbin) the big center owl was the inspiration that started it all, made him last, then laid him down& started playin. Its queen sized, will be a Christmas gift for a 12 year old who Loves owls& and just got a new room & new big bed. |
That's adorable! I love all the colours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Very cute!

My daughter dearly loves owls!! Can you tell me where you got the patterns? Were they your own? Some of the small ones look like the AccuQuilt die that I have used, but you definitely have improved on that with the bigger ones! If there is any kind of pattern that you could share, I would be very grateful! Thank you for showing your special and very cheery quilt!!

I started with a digital downloaded pattern from Quiltmaker Magazine called “Swoopers” i ( loosely) followed it — I’m terrible about following patterns— the big center owl was from a picture someone I know had outside his door. I saw it & asked him if I could trace it onto newsprint to use for an applique, he said sure. I traced it one day and snapped a picture to get the colors right then went home & made the appliqué templates to make him. |
I can certainly see why it was a fun project...those owls are so happy and cute. It will be a great Christmas gift and a delightful addition to her new room and her big girl bed. Wonderfully done!

This is a wonderful quilt! I have a grown up niece who loves quilts and she would go wild over this!
|
This is really cute. I love owls.

Adorable! Applique is my favorite technique and I almost always fuse and blanket stitch. Our daughter is pregnant and due Feb. 2nd and am making her a "dog and cat" quilt for the baby. Since the appliques are larger I am going to try for the first time: using freezer paper on the wrong side and turning the edge under with a starch solution, then applique with a very narrow and fine blind hem to tack down. Will let you know how it works out between now and then LOL Love, love, love your variety of owls.

That is a fun quilt and a wonderful gift .....I bet it makes their Christmas!
|
Oh, that just looks fun. I especially like the waving owls.

Brings a smile to my face! Joyful quilt!

I see why you enjoyed it so much. Those owls are so colorful and fun. My Emmaline loves owls and I know she would be crazy for this quilt. Someday I'm going to have to attempt some appliqué.
