I can't stop looking at it, trying to figure out the original block. I think the white hexy is the middle of the block. Do you know?

that's a lovely quilt, thanks for the background story.
I think it looks like a variation of
"Grandmother's Flower Garden". It sure used up lots of scraps.

Isn't that a cute picture? My husband gets the best shots of our dogs.

I'm working on a little baby quilt. I just pin basted it today. I totally suck at cutting so my side borders are wider than my top borders since I only had a certain amt. of fabric. But I didn't want them all to be that small so I figured what the heck. I need some cutting tips in a big way. I have no idea how to cut such loooong pieces...and this is just a SMALL quilt! I'm taking a beginning quilting class starting the 3rd week of September. Top it off with the fact that I suck at math. Now I don't know how to FMQ it with the pins in the way. :) The quilt is square...it's just the photo.

Just remove the pins as you get to them.

Well shoot. That was easy! ;) Thanks!

Odd thing for someone to say...I think once a gift is given..that's it...no strings. Glad you are finally deciding to use it, it is a beauty and well done for 17 1/2 years!

We both come from parents with multiple divorces so I'm happy we were able to make it work. As for the comment about the quilt, my MIL said it is very typical of her. What can you do? :)

It's beautiful!! But don't continue to store it in a plastic bag because plastic is not good for quilts although yours is in good condition. You're lucky. Store it in a pillow case.
However, I 'm sure you'll use it a lot and have it out on display more than packed away.
