The quilt I made for William Shatner (Capt. Kirk Star Trek)
First of all, let me say that the earliest memories I have are watching Star Trek on Thursday nights with my dad. William Shatner is the only actor I have ever admired. When he created his own forum, I was one of the first to sign up. Through the years we all became a very close knit family.
Bill had hosted a charity paintball game in Juliet, Ill for the past several years and I decided to try my hand at paintball. (ow, hurts A LOT) But anyway, I had the idea of having the regular forum posters making quilt squares and sending them to me so I could make a quilt. This immediately went nuts!!! I was sending plain white quilt squares all over the world!!! It was amazing! So I pieced all the squares together from fans all over the globe, and made them into the quilt that you see... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...paintball2.jpg This was the first time I met Bill Shatner (but not the last!!!) and it was amazing! I had also made a smaller quilt for his daughter, Lisabeth. It's just something I'm very proud of! |
How wonderful.
Tell Bill.......Chase said hello!! I am a fan of his also. I love the original Star Trek. |

Pretty cool!
yes that is very cool

I'd be proud too! That is a pretty cool story. So when did you gift it to him? Was this picture taken after the paintball game? Which one in the picture is you? I too remember Star Trek as a kid but my mom was very strict about bed time so I didn't truly get into the series until it was in syndication.
Wow amazing! How many quilt sqs got returned to you? Wish you would've taken close up shots of the quilt too.
Great story for us old Star Trekkers! Great job!
What a fun quilt story! I'm sure they both appreciated the work you put into the quilts. And I, too, wish you had taken close up shots. I'm curious, how many squares did you receive?
great quilt and what an honor.
I am sure cherishes your creation. It was a lovely thing for you to do.

I'm a Trekkie too! Fun story and beautiful quilt! The best part of making quilts is finding a good home for them.
How very cool! It is amazing how many people sent back the squares for his quilt.

Look at him standing there with paint all over him! LOL... What a great opportunity you had.

Bill and I spent many adventurous hours on the enterprise. What fond memories of the show I have. I was a teenager then and developed my love of science fiction through watching Star Treck.

That's amazing!! I'm a huge Treki fan. Box sets at my house. What a fun quilt for you to make. I'm glad you shared this experience.
I just got done watching the series again on Netflix and it never gets old! Who doesn't love Star Trek! Thanks for letting us live vicariously through you for a short time!
Thanks everyone! It was truly an honor to present it to him myself. He was the only celebrity I had ever wanted to meet and it's nice to think that he may still have that quilt. I've met him several times after but never bucked up the courage enough to ask him.
Oh i'm sure he really loved it. I knew he'd be a good actor when i saw him in a Twilight Zone show. He had the longest eyelashes. He was pretty cute back then.
Shatner for President!! or Prime Minister!! There was a movement here in Canada to that purpose, though a very small one!

How cool that you did this! Our whole family loves Star Trek.... Live Long and Prosper!

When I was in college, my roommates and I planned our summer schedule around Star Trek episodes. One of my roommates always said she wanted to be one of the beautiful women of Star Trek! What an awesome quilt and story!

How awesome is that. I can see a horse square in the picture and he is such a lover of horses. Well done !!!
