Can anyone tell me the name of this quilt it is made out hexagons like grandmothers flower garden. I bought the quilt top and finished the quilt and would love to make another one but I would like to find the pattern, Thanks Loise Shaddox

craftybear 10-08-2010 07:49 PM

that is beautiful, but don't know the pattern, I will surf and see if I can find it for us

amma 10-08-2010 08:06 PM

Amma, take a closer look--I think they are squares not hexagons-- I think it would be easy to figure out the blocks. Anne

amma 10-08-2010 08:16 PM

Hmmm she said it was made out of hexagons...

C.Cal Quilt Girl 10-08-2010 08:22 PM

Looks like squares to me, and a very creative use also, Cool!! :)

amma 10-08-2010 08:23 PM

I think that is just a rough pattern, but she is looking for hexagons

wolfkitty 10-08-2010 08:24 PM

I think the squares are just what she used to draw the pattern, but the actual quilt uses hexagons, from what she said in the beginning. It looks like Grandmother's Flower Basket, with a variation of the GFG design on the side.

ghostrider 10-08-2010 08:24 PM

I believe the squares are just a drawing of the quilt layout, not the quilt itself. It's easier to draw squares than hexagons and the OP did say it was made out of hexs.

heehee, same thinking, sorry!

gaigai 10-08-2010 08:25 PM

It looks like her photo is of graph paper with the squares colored like the quilt, NOT the actual quilt.

Quiltforme 10-08-2010 08:26 PM

it looks like she might have drawn it up with graph paper I really like the design!!! Not sure what it is named but I like it!1

amma 10-08-2010 08:32 PM

I have been searching for this all evening... I have seen this pattern, I KNOW I have LMBO

If that is a graph of the pattern what else does she need?? She just has to start making the hex's. She only needs to figure out the size of the individual hex. Follow the pattern on the paper and she has her quilt pattern.

I agree.

EasyPeezy 10-08-2010 08:51 PM

Here some info about the original. Don't know if the pattern is available though. Shouldn't be too hard to figure it out. Seems like you already
have the placement on paper.

Loise 10-08-2010 08:52 PM

Thank you I hope you can find a pattrn I have searched and had no luck I can make the quilt without the pattern but its would easier of course with the pattern

C.Cal Quilt Girl 10-08-2010 09:06 PM

Why couldn't it be made af squares ?? Have a Jack azz quilt made for dad out of squares, triangles for angle pieces, is really cool.

Annya 10-09-2010 01:46 AM

If you can't find the pattern why not copy off the block in you top and put them and the instructions onto paper for future reference.

dakotamaid 10-09-2010 03:10 AM

Many years ago the "cross stitch" quilts were in vogue. You take a cross stitch pattern and simple replace the Xs with a square. Tiny squares, about 1-1.5 inches. I've seen some beautiful quilts made that way if you have the patience. That is what her pic reminds me of!

gollytwo 10-09-2010 03:23 AM

It looks like an Anne Orr quilt.
She was a 1930's designer. You can Google her to see more.
My dim recollection is that she was originally a needlepoint or cross-stitch designer and her patterns were adapted to quilts.

I made a small one years ago, alot of work, but beautiful when completed.

SueDor 10-09-2010 04:54 AM

It's cute!

I would think the pattern would be just a graph, much like the picture you posted, so except for figureing out the hex size, your graph should work just fine. It is very pretty. Good luck finding the pattern, or using your graph if you don't find it. I have seen very similer quilts, but not a pattern. Hope you find it.

Bmanmommy 10-09-2010 05:48 AM

beautiful

I was going through my books and patterns looking for a pattern and I came across one that may be similar to the one you are looking for. I don't think it is exactly it.

If interested in it, please let me know. Maybe we can make a deal.

dunster 10-09-2010 04:35 PM

I see that you bought the quilt top. Did you realize that the hexagons are usually made individually by hand using the English paper piecing technique, and then they are sewn together by hand. Because of this, you may not be able to find a "pattern" more detailed than the drawing you already have, but there are many sites that give instructions for doing EPP. It is a very portable type of handwork, and this is one of the prettiest EPP designs I have seen. (And no, I haven't done any EPP, but it is on my list of things to try... someday.)

Bluebonnet Sue 10-09-2010 04:37 PM

Beautiful piece of work. Thanks for posting for us all to see.

CarrieAnne 10-09-2010 05:05 PM

I really like that!

Loise 10-09-2010 05:30 PM

I am will to deal let me knoiw what you have in mind. Loise

finch 10-10-2010 02:39 AM

It is pretty.Sure hope you find the pattern.

jacqueck 10-10-2010 04:31 AM

I believe it is from a book called "Cross Stitch" Quilts by Eleanor Burns. And, yes, they are little squares, not hexagons. I have used this book and converted it to hexagons and it worked beautifully. Have fun -- either way you go.

#1piecemaker 10-10-2010 04:38 AM

I've got it here somewhere. I'll look for it. PM me. I'll email mail you a copy when I find it.

it's illegal to make and share copies of anybody's pattern but your own ... as in one you designed yourself ... without permission from the designer and/or publisher. the consent should be provided in writing to protect the recipient.

noahscats7 10-10-2010 03:07 PM

I thought it was graph paper too but if you look at the top left it looks like it's been bound. Does anyone agree?

I'm not sure of the name but it is gorgeous.

Momsmurf 10-10-2010 10:47 PM

Can't help with the name, but maybe you can just copy it since it's yours.
You could get a sheet of graph paper and color it it, much like the cross stitch and needle point patterns.
It doesn't appear to be that complicated...no curves that I can see...squares and rectangles if I'm not mistaken.

Eleanor Burns did a quilt like this on her TV program. Don't remember the date or name of the quilt, but you might find a pattern in some of her books or through her website.

Momsmurf 10-10-2010 10:52 PM

Agree. Just squares and rectangles.

Here is a link for free graph paper to print. You can find nearly any type or shapes here. Enjoy! http://incompetech.com/graphpaper/axonometric/
