For lack of a better word...
This is actually the first quilt to really give me problems....
The pattern cutting directions were off like 96 pieces, like 192 black pieces (short 48 ) and the white squares were way too many (288 ) ...the number of strips were short...
When I ran short I went to get more black and of course they did not have it...I had to scramble from the brights to get some strips to use
My seams were off...not sure of this yet...
I hate this quilt...don't know when I will get the borders on but it is pieced together and off the sewing deck.
Don't know what I am going to do with the left over 2.5" white squares...

It looks pretty good but only you know what problems you had with it. Sorry it gave you trouble.

azdesertrat 04-11-2009 07:25 PM

It does look very colorful and well done.Just save the squares you never know when you will need them and then they will already be cut.If you really don't like it finish it anyway and donate it to a charity

Moonpi 04-11-2009 07:43 PM

I like it. If you look at the top left chain running towards bottom right, the chain does not have the whites on the outside. That and the other one going in the same direction is where you got off.

The chains are white-black-white everywhere else, but black-white-black on those two runs.

I'd border it in something bright and find someone who will love your interpretation. Everything we make does not have to be uniform or scripted. When dealing with that many small bits, I'll take strip piecing every time.

mrsj82 04-11-2009 08:29 PM

I'm sorry it gave you problems. I sure don't notice them, and it's a beautiful quilt. Good job, and if you need a home for it, PM me for my address....lol

MadQuilter 04-11-2009 09:13 PM

For such a pain in the neck quilt, it turned out really nice. If you really hate it, have you considered donating it, or raffling it off? Personally, I don't think it's hate-worthy.

Could the extra black and white squares be the first border followed by a solid outer border?

Jim's Gem 04-11-2009 09:23 PM

Looks pretty. You'll find something to use those blocks for!

Harmony 04-11-2009 09:40 PM

Despite the fact that it made you want to tear your hair out, I think it's a really nice quilt! I sure don't understand why some quilts just decide to fight you all the way, but that happens to me sometimes too!

amma 04-11-2009 10:06 PM

I think it is very bright, cheerful, and it can come right over to my house :D :D :D

SulaBug 04-11-2009 11:07 PM

I think your quilt is great!! :D I love all of the colors & the pattern itself. If you decide you don't want it, I know it would have a good home at my place!! :D :D :D :D

gcathie 04-12-2009 12:34 AM

Awwww it is a lovely quilt and the extra blocks will be just right for another quilt for sure....good start for a scrappy or baby quilt.....:-)

key4unc 04-12-2009 01:49 AM

Don't know what I am going to do with the left over 2.5" white squares...

You could use Bonnies "leaders and enders" technique to make 4 patches.

barnbum 04-12-2009 02:43 AM

Oh gosh--it's so pretty!! A child of any age would have a blast looking at all that's there--and identifying colors. It looks like fun!!

I'm sorry you had so much trouble--how frustrating. It's beautiful though. :D

tlrnhi 04-12-2009 03:12 AM

It's very pretty despite the problems it gave you!

BlueChicken 04-12-2009 03:23 AM

Sorry, but I too think it's an awesome quilt! :-)

I would use the left over white squares and make a border with those and the brights. And if you really still don't like it, what a wonderful gift to a charity. :-)

pocoellie 04-12-2009 04:42 AM

I'm sorry you had so many problems with it, because it's very pretty.

Justquilting 04-12-2009 04:57 AM

I feel your pain. I've had quilts give me grief. It turned out great & colorful. You'll find a home for it. And they'll love it!!

sandpat 04-12-2009 05:18 AM

Sorry this one was a bugger, but it turned out nice anyway!!

GiGi 04-12-2009 05:25 AM

When all else fails, take the top and cut it in 3 inch strips, then randomly sew it back together and see what you have. It is fun and less stressful. I have done this before (with an 1/8th inch seam) and was very happy with the turnout. Very "Outside the Box" and interesting. If you really don't like it, give it a try. You will be the only one with that quilt once you are done. GiGi

sewjoyce 04-12-2009 06:05 AM

I like that quilt!! Very bright and cheerful!!

ScubaK 04-12-2009 06:22 AM

Thanks everyone for the encouraging words.
I will fold it up and put it away to "rest" for awhile.

Gigi...I have never heard of cutting a top into 3" strips and sewing them back together again. How interesting!

Now that this one is "done" I can start on some new ones!

Thanks again.

Kirsten

The fun is where the problems starts....Its more challenging and you did great !!! Congratulation

Debbie1 04-12-2009 09:09 AM

I think it looks great, by looking at it I can't tell you had any problems. It is really nice.

I agree. Good advice. Have done that myself. From where I am sitting your quilt looks fantastic.

littlehud 04-12-2009 06:56 PM

I really like it. I hate it when there is that kind of problem with a pattern.

pal 04-12-2009 07:27 PM

What a WONDERFUL quilt! It has such personality!

I'm sorry that you're disappointed with it - but, honestly,

it's a great looking quilt.

sharon b 04-12-2009 07:32 PM

Sorry it was such a pain  But it is very pretty

Debra Mc 04-12-2009 08:08 PM

I think it is really neat. I would put a black border on it, if it were mine. I also can't readily see your boo boos. I hate pain in the behind quilts & the pieces aren't right. Barnbum I love your avatar quilt. You posted something about it & I didn't get to reply. I love it. I would have never thought to put that many busy colors or prints together. Really neat.

quiltsRfun 04-12-2009 08:23 PM

You may hate it right now, but I think it's pretty. Put it away for a while and you'll probably feel better about it. I love the bright colors with the B/W.

scrappylouisa 04-18-2009 05:00 AM

I think it is a beautiful quilt. The imperfections actually make it special. Let me explain. My Great-Aunt always makes one block in each of her quilts with a flaw. She says that her quilts cannot be perfect......because only God is perfect. So, each of my quilts that I make have what I call a Aunt Della block.......it's my way of honoring my special Great Aunt Della and her quilts.

The block may have a piece of fabric out of place, wrong side fabric, or any other little thing I can do to make the block different......yet not really distract from the overall quilt.

Donna Mae 04-18-2009 10:23 AM

I think you did a good job. Beautiful colors and I'm looking really hard and can't see that anything is not right.
I'd take it off your hands!!
Keep it rock'in

Awwwwww what a shame, cuz I think you did a pretty dern great job on it. Put it aside for awhile. I'll be you'll love it later

Diane007 11-08-2012 12:11 PM

hey l like your fish fabric nice

travelingquilter 11-10-2012 12:15 AM

nice job. left over whites always go good in 9 or 4-patch blocks.

lillybeck 11-10-2012 06:16 AM

If it is that bad for you just send it to me. I think it is great.

Gilly 11-10-2012 06:18 AM

I really love the quilt (sorry it is such a pain)!

Lady Jane 11-10-2012 08:10 AM

Looks darn good to me.

cathyvv 11-10-2012 08:43 AM

In spite of all your tribulations, it is a very pretty quilt. Put it aside for 3 months and then 'rediscover' it. That's the time to border and finish it.

If you really hate it, then give it to someone to finish as a charity quilt.

broomstix 11-10-2012 08:55 AM

i think it is beautiful, sorry it gave you so much grief.

Bataplai 11-10-2012 09:19 AM

I so know what you mean. I'm almost finished binding a lap quilt that I hate. I threw away the pattern. I'm only finishing it because it's a Christmas present. Even though everyone that sees the quilt likes it, I hate it because I know the trouble and aggravation it caused me. Ah the joys of quilting... :)
