I call this my quilt of quilts. There are 12 months of quilts. I only took a few pictures of the individual blocks.

I haven't quilted it yet. I haven't completely decide how I want to do it. I am pretty sure I will hand quilt it but not sure how.

Counted Cross Stitch, right? I also do CCS, never thought to do them in a quilt.

Absolutely breathtaking!

Mary-that is really pretty. You have put a LOT of time into that quilt-and it shows! Wonderful job. I think it should be "the mother of all quilts!"

this is one about whether a hoop is required or not

i have done smaller projects in round hoops and look forward to completing my current project to see how a larger project goes

i have a quilt frame but i really like being able to move the hoop around in my lap as i don"t do well quilting with my hands in certain positions

your project is beautiful and will be amazing when you"re complete

fantastic work

Those are not preprinted panels. I cross stitched each one of them. Needless to say it took me several years. I think about 7 years. They are done over uneven linen type fabric.

fabricluvr 09-24-2008 06:25 AM

wow! that is gorgeous! i would be putting that baby up so no one could touch it!

ScubaK 09-24-2008 06:26 AM

JANW 09-24-2008 06:29 AM

Love this and boohoo I don't know how to crossstitch. How do you get the pattern on the fabric?

Mamagus 09-24-2008 06:38 AM

That's impressive!!! I love cross stitch!

beachlady 09-24-2008 06:47 AM

I can cross stitch and that would be a good thing to do on vacations and the airplane. Did you have certain patterns for the different month's pictures? If I worked on something for seven years - no I probably wouldn't!!! That is certainly a treasure!!

Izy 09-24-2008 06:54 AM

Credit where credit is due - this has got to be the prettiest labour of love I have seen!! Definitely one for show and to pass down the generations, its a gem!! :D

mary quite contrary 09-24-2008 07:14 AM

I work from a chart. The pattern is Paula Vaughan's A Quilt for all Seasons.

Wow, it is beautiful. As an avid cross stitcher I know what kind of time and work went into your blocks. I love Paula Vaughan's patterns. I have done a few but still have lots of her patterns that I want to do.... Someday. I'd almost be afraid to put them into a quilt, I wouldn't want anything to ruin my needlework. It's funny, I am an absolute perfectionist when it comes to my cross-stitch and I only work on one project at a time, (for the most part) but with quilting, I am not quite the perfectionist and I have (ahem) a few (15 or so) in the works. Great Job!!!!

Brazen 09-24-2008 08:28 AM

That's wonderful Mary!! I actually HAVE that cross stitching book myself! LOL I haven't done any of the patterns in it... one of those 'for the future' things. Awesome that you took it one huge step further! :)

mgshaw 09-24-2008 08:40 AM

I love Paula Vaughn!!! I have cross stitched quite a few of her designs but I framed mine. Never thought to put them in a quilt! It is gorgeous!!!!!

Gale Leone 09-24-2008 08:43 AM

Wow! That's all there is to it, WOW!

Beautiful quilt! I recently put together 12 block x-stitch disney character quilt. A co-worker had x-stitched all the blocks and asked if I would make it into a quilt for a gd. I sashed it in pastel greens, pinks and yellow. I machine quilted it because my hand quilting was to small to deal with all the small openings in the x-stitch fabric. It turned out great. Keep us posted on the hand quilting. I would like to know how it goes for you. What a wonderful piece of art you have created! Thanks for sharing.

kd124 09-24-2008 09:42 AM

Stunning! Absolutely stunning!!!!

Bevanger 09-24-2008 11:28 AM

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh Paula Vaughan. A VERY favorite of mine to cross stitch. I have all those. I should make one....... I sure love yours. Thanks for sharing :D

sewnsewer2 09-24-2008 11:29 AM

Did you see my jaw drop this time? WOWWWWWW! Awesome job!

quiltsRfun 09-24-2008 11:38 AM

I'd say this is the quilt of quilts for a number of reasons. Awsome cross stitch work and the quilt is gorgeous. A real treasure.

bj 09-24-2008 11:41 AM

That is just beautiful.

Boston1954 09-24-2008 12:19 PM

These look VERY familiar! I have a few cross stitch books with pictures like these. You did a wonderful job on them. Take your time deciding how to quilt it. After all that you have put into it so far, you don't want to rush now.

mamatobugboo 09-24-2008 01:35 PM

i have a few cross stitch patterns in the works, including my nephews baby blanket I am doing for his baby shower....which was 10 years ago!! My sister still doesn't let me forget about it and if I let a project sit too long now, my husband says "oh, it's a "max baby blanket" project"!

Those are beautiful blocks and I love the way you have made them intoa quilt - what a wonderful idea! Gorgeous job :D

mary quite contrary 09-24-2008 02:31 PM

I think for quilting it I will go to women much more experienced than myself.

My daughter & SIL attend a mennonite church in OK when they are in the states (currently missionaries to the Philippines). I have gone to their quilting days and quilted with them. I might ask them if they would be willing to help me with this project. We could probably finish it in a couple days with so many there to help. Plus I always learn so much when I work with them.

Thank you for all of your kind comments. I have several framed cross stitch in my house and you can only have so many around and my girls only want so many. So, when I found this book and they started to pile up I thought quilt what else?

At Christmas I'll post pictures of our css stockings.

Harmony 09-24-2008 04:24 PM

What a great idea! Love this one--good job!

gcathie 09-24-2008 04:59 PM

Stunning ...I too have this same book and have done only one x-stitch from it....the pumpkin one with the wagon....I'd rather quilt....but stunning for sure....gee it would be a hard thing trying to figure out how to quilt that won't take away from the x-stitch...can't help at this time...good luck..

bluebird 09-24-2008 06:09 PM

Can't add any more comments, it all has been said. There is soooo much work in your cross stitch and it is done beautifully. Then to put them into a quilt is just awsome. Keep us posted on how you will quilt it. The Mennonite ladies will probably give you the help you need. Post more pictures.
