Somebody posted earlier about neck pain and quilting. Here is my scrappy log cabin that sent me to the doctor and caused 2 weeks of constant pain. This quilt isn't huge, but it does have 2 layers of cotton batting inside. Wrestling it around caused the injury! It's warm though! I'm finally able to do some more quilting today.

It happens to me all the time, which is why I question myself why I keep making quilts that make me hurt. But the end result is always worth it. Yours is truly lovely, love all the colors

Gorgeous quilt. Yes, I get back pain from either bending over the Lizzie frame or sitting at the sewing machine too long too. Hope you have recovered.

Quiltforme 11-06-2010 09:52 AM

Beautiful and isn't it all about blood sweat and tears for our quilts!!!

quiltinggrandmaca 11-06-2010 09:55 AM

Very pretty quilt, so sorry you hurt.

Harmony 11-06-2010 10:00 AM

Been there, done that! But I know how it is--you just want to get it DONE, and figure you'll sort your body out later! If it's any comfort, I think it was worth your effort--your quilt is beautiful! Glad you're feeling better now--but take it easy! The quilt will wait if you're hurting!

DoxieMom 11-06-2010 10:06 AM

Wow that is a beautiful (and substantial) quilt.

Sorry I hear about the pain. I hope you are on the mend, and feeling much better.

Just wondering why you chose to use 2 layers of batting? Did you do it for warmth, or loft, or something else?

cuppi duke 11-06-2010 01:39 PM

I love the colors. You did a beautiful job quilting it even though it caused you pain, you should be very proud.

Sorry for your injury. I did the same thing on a very small square I was top quilting and ended up in great pain, that did not go away. I spent two and a half months three times a week in Physical Therapy. My neck is 75% corrected. You can bet that I do my exercises every day to build my shoulder muscles, stretch my neck carefully, and stop sewing if I feel any electric sting across my shoulders....also I work constantly on correcting my posture.I do not want neck surgery. Also when I hand knit/read I have to hold the needles away from my body so that I do not look down all the time. I do admire your quilt! Take care of your body so you can keep on creating!

I tried it for the warmth. I love cotton batting, but it never seems warm enough. I made a small difference. I won't do it again.
