sueisallaboutquilts 09-05-2010 06:19 AM

Diane, your quilting is gorgeous!!! I know what you mean though. Hand quilting takes a long time and I need to have other projects going too.
That is one beautiful quilt!! :D

KathyAire 09-05-2010 06:21 AM

Isn't the feeling of completion wonderful? Nice quilt. You did a good job. I don't have enough time in my life to quilt one by hand. I hate doing hand work of any kind, but I love the looks of it.

SueDor 09-05-2010 06:45 AM

Great work!

Ann L 09-05-2010 06:52 AM

Great job on the quilting. mine will never look that good.

colleen53 09-05-2010 07:18 AM

great job !! love the hand quilting.. i tried it a few times and it just accelerates the pain in my wrist.. so machine quilting it is for me.

AnnieF 09-05-2010 07:24 AM

You did a wonderful job on the hand quilting. I live in the Northeast and usually try to have a hand quilting project in my frame for the winter....I didn't get to it last year and really missed just the quiet time I spend stitching away....at my own pace.

diannemc 09-05-2010 08:51 AM

Thanks everyone..If I had another choose I probably wouldn't hand quilt...but can't afford to have it done and can't figure out how to do it on my sewing machine..Even bought the quilting foot..!

mollymct 09-05-2010 11:25 AM

That is beautiful!! And all the more special because it's handquilted--looks great, by the way.

I love pinwheels and your fabrics are so pretty!! I really love the paisley border! Great job.

majormom 09-05-2010 11:32 AM

What a beautiful job you did. Every point is where it should be, and every seam matches. I love the colors you chose. I am always amazed with by anyone who hand quilts. It takes such a long time, but is so beautiful. Your quilting looks so even. Great job, I must say!

quilttiludrop 09-05-2010 11:42 AM

I've come back to see the pics - and they look lovely. Beautiful fabrics and great piecing and hand work.

mpspeedy 09-05-2010 01:19 PM

Dianne, YOu did a beautiful job on the quilting. I love doing it because I can watch TV, hold a conversation or listen to music etc and still be getting something done. Years ago when video rentals were still very popular the girl at the store knew when I was working on a big quilt because I came and rented several movies.
I am leaving on a cruise thursday and will be sure and take a portable handquilting project with me.
The more you do the faster you will get. I find it faster in the long run because I don't have to struggle with the machine and rolling it to get it under the arm etc. The part I hate most about making a big quilt is machine attaching the binding before finishing it by hand. Dragging all that fabric and batting around is a real pain.

The quilt is beautiful! The time you spent hand quilting is great, but the quilt will be loved and cherished. Well worth the time and love you put into this lovely gift.

Wow, great job, love the quilt and great job on the hand quilting, it's becoming a lost are, keep going

Jingle 09-05-2010 04:31 PM

Very pretty and pretty hand quilting. It takes so long and that is why I taught myself to machine quilt, so much faster. Since I give most of my quilts away, I doubt many would appreciate all the hours spent to quilt them.

earthwalker 09-05-2010 04:33 PM

Very pretty quilt...love the pattern and your handquilting is exquisite. Ah...the talent!

franie 09-05-2010 04:37 PM

Me too, I wish I could hand quilt , but my fingers are too stiff. Years ago before I started quilting I did Newedlepoint and crewel embroidery.

tortoisethreads 09-05-2010 05:33 PM

Invest in a copy of Learn to Machine Quilt with Pat Sloan. Make a small crib size quilt, then read that book cover to cover. THEN sit at your machine and quilt that little quilt. That book gave me such confidence to try machine quilting. Now I love it!! I keep to twin size and under only due to the small space under the neck of my Viking!

littlehud 09-05-2010 06:41 PM

Wow, that is so pretty. You did a great job. Your quilting is awesome. Great job and thanks for sharing.

trisha 09-05-2010 08:49 PM

I too mostly only hand quilt. I did by a walking foot & will SID with it but am afraid of FMQ. I will always have a hand quilting project going at all times.
