In January, I posted about a fantastic lot of fabric I got at a thrift store, including over 40 FQ. Fifteen of them were coordinating Moda marbles line, shown below. Here is the quilt I made from them, added a beautiful batik border I got at Brubakers fabric store when I was in Lancaster for AQS show in March. The pattern is called Portugese Tiles from a book I found at the library called Phenomenal Fat Quarter Quilts.
The last picture shows the doll quilt I made for this month's Doll quilt swap- a miniature version from the scraps!

Very nice quilts. I've found some real good deals on material at Thrift Shops,.... my favorite place to shop. I've found new tablecloth's and drape's that made good sewing.

erstan947 04-27-2010 05:52 PM

Love the pattern and choice of fabric.

annieshane 04-27-2010 05:58 PM

I keep reading about those fantastic fabric finds like yours. All I ever find is "junk". Any suggestions about finding the shops that most often have fabric. The combinations are beautiful. Work is very good quality.

judyrael 04-27-2010 06:06 PM

Very very nice. Love the colors.

Wow-that's beautiful. I love your choice of fabrics. That's a really neat pattern to show off the colors.

Some Thrift Shops that I have gone to, have just junk. Things that should have been thrown away and other have great finds. I always find a lot of good buys after the rummage sales in the spring and fall. What they don't sale, they give to the Thrift Sale Stores. Winter is a bad time to shop them. In Wisconsin where I lived, I had better luck then I do here in Missouri.

I think in order to get the best choices you need to check back often and know when they put out the good stuff. I'm with you Judy, I don't find much good stuff. Glad to see that others are striking it rich.

Inspirational quilts. There are so many things I need to look for now in thrift shops...glassware, fabric, charts....
That was a lucky find and a wonderful application of the fabric. Lovely pattern

What fun! You got the fabric at a thrift store, and got the pattern from a library!! When you think about it, all you really had to buy was batting and thread! The quilts are beautiful.

Kellie G 04-29-2010 09:04 AM

Absolutely gorgeous...

meemersmom 04-29-2010 09:21 AM

This gives me an idea...a 'mini me' quilt to give to pet owners to keep their furry friends off of the "good" ones. Very neat pattern; great use of your find. I'm jealous --- I never run into deals like this!

GrammaNan 04-29-2010 09:39 AM

You are my kind of quilter! I also use thrift store fabrics. You definitely made a silk purse out of a sow's ear. LOL!
