In a way I didn't really disregard the instructions because Tara emphasizes doing your own thing and having fun with it. I just varied the direction of some of the quilting lines, and I didn't use the log cabin arrangement that she used. Also, I put binding around the flap, and while I was doing that I clearly understood why she did not! It's a pain to go around a tight turn with binding. Also, I did a little quilting on the bottom part of the bag using the embroidery machine. It doesn't show up at all, and it made it necessary, I thought, to use cotton fabric in that area rather than something tougher. I added embroidery stabilizer to that area. She used leather on some of hers, and demonstrates how to do that. I made this entirely from my stash, except for the Decor Bond stabilizer and the magnetic snap. I picked a fabric I liked to start each side and basically used the colors in the first fabric to suggest the subsequent choices, but gave myself a lot of leeway.

Nanny's dollface, you will be pleasantly surprised at how easy it is to do a zipper this way. I used washable school glue to baste it where I wanted it, under the opening, which is faced with the top half of the pocket. I'm not good at explaining it, but trust me, it's easy.

Thanks, you all, for the positive response. This was a lot of fun.

I have to find that class. I love yours!!!!!! You did a great job.
I like fabric bags because they are lighter to carry than leather.

Beautiful quilted bag. The fabrics you chose are lovely...esp. like the lining and the details inside (pockets and zipper)
