Quilted Postcards

5 Attachment(s)
Here are five postcards I made out of the same fabric!! All are a bit different with the different threads used. I also used crayola crayons to highlight the feathers. The cards measure 4" X 6" and four have been sent in the mail and arrived safely!!! Not in envelopes!! Their destinations were: Germany, Liverpool UK, Wisconsin, Phoenix AZ.

great way for us all to practice fmq feathers. i'd love one of those.

sandyfullmer 07-13-2014 09:42 AM

They are wonderful! Your quilting is amazing and the colors in the thread make them sing. I'd love to receive one of these in the mail!

they are beautiful, especially the second one down. the varigated thread color just "sings" ... love it! but, i have wondered every time i see someone post quilted post cards ---can you really mail them? what are the special proceedures needed to ensure they are still beautiful when they arrive at thier destination?

n2scraplvr 07-13-2014 10:09 AM

Wow! Fantastic job and a great way to practice FMQ!!! Don't think you need practice but I sure do! Anyone would love these in the mail! TFS!

Jeanne S 07-13-2014 10:16 AM

Your quilting skills are spectacular!!!!!!

serenitybygrace 07-13-2014 10:19 AM

These are beautiful. You did very nice work.

breezyquilts 07-13-2014 10:22 AM

Yes, you can mail them. Some prefer mailing them in a clear envelope, that way they don't get dirty. I mail mine without and take the risk. So far, all the postcards I have gotten have been just fine. Some of the members of the postcard group I am in call the dirt "postal art". Either way is fine. On the back you put a line down the middle and I write postcard top center. Then take it to the postoffice to mail. If there are embellishments on it, you have them handstamp which is a little more money. I got a gorgeous beaded postcard and it arrived perfectly without an envelope!!!

Here is the back on one of my postcards. The entire postcard is fabric, fusible, and pellon. No paper.

Baloonatic 07-13-2014 02:01 PM

Gosh just beautiful!! Did you quilt them on a DSM or a longarm?

oksewglad 07-13-2014 02:03 PM

How lovely and inspiring. I went to you blog and then to SewCalGal's tutorial....I may be ready to give this a try. Thanks for sharing.

breezyquilts 07-13-2014 02:22 PM

I quilted them on my domestic machine. I have a Juki straight stitch=sit and quilt.

Great looking postcards; your feathers are just lovely!

ube quilting 07-13-2014 02:36 PM

Wonderful miniature work. Would you share what type of machine you use and how slow you run the machine for such precise work? They are awesome and yes, I would love to have one of them show up in my mail box. Truly a small work of art.
peace

how interesting! i have followed the quilted post cards ideas in magazines & forums for several years. you are the first person who has offered comment on actually mailing/recieving them. guess i need to try a couple! thanx for your response. i enjoyed your blog post on these and the making of them. very nicely illustrated & explained.

sewbeadit 07-14-2014 01:51 AM

Beautiful work, wish I was on the receiving end of those!

gabeway 07-14-2014 04:38 AM

Very very nice.

breezyquilts 07-14-2014 04:58 AM

I us a Juki-domestic machine and I go slowly on the feathers. Not super slow, but slow enough to see what I am doing. I have considered doing a little video to show how I do the feathers, but not quite sure how to do that!!!

Oh, that would be very interesting. Maybe a youtube video. I don't have a clue on those but sure do find them useful, as well as, very helpful.

SheriR 07-14-2014 08:49 PM

What fun!! Who wouldn't love receiving THIS in the mail!!! Or belonging to a group that swaps them!!! Oh my!!! :D

rainsprite 07-15-2014 02:46 AM

Your skill and taste are wonderfully displayed and I am sure will be cherished by those lucky recipients.
Thank you.

MaryKatherine 07-15-2014 03:31 AM

I have to ask. Doesn't the stamp come off? That's been why I have never tried it!

2manyhobbies 07-15-2014 03:49 AM

They are so beautiful.
