I have decided that because I can't seem to stick to anything is that I will just make blocks and maybe some day put them together. My husband thinks I am a nut - but I really do like to make the blocks. Just not 12 or 15 of the same block.

Here is the one I did today.

And from the week before - I only get one done :)

nice block!

thequilterslink 04-03-2010 01:14 PM

Oh i like that, very pretty block and very nicely done. i just did the Rangers pride block from there.

samroberts01 04-03-2010 01:16 PM

I agree with you, I kind of like just making the blocks too! Are you in the quilting bee? It is just swaping one block with someone every month I love it!

samroberts01 04-03-2010 01:17 PM

I really like this block you made, the fabrics are just beautifull together!

quiltsRfun 04-03-2010 01:39 PM

Sounds like a good plan to me. I like your blocks.

Marcia 04-03-2010 01:41 PM

Neat--they are each one very different from the next. Are you going to make a sampler quilt with them?

Lacelady 04-03-2010 01:49 PM

If they are all the same size, you can always put them together as a sampler quilt one day.

janRN 04-03-2010 01:50 PM

Cminor: I'm with you--I just like to make blocks. I keep going to different websites to get more block patterns. I must have a stack of 20-25 blocks. I can't make more than 3 of the same one like for a table runner. After 3, I get bored. I call it qadd-quilting attention deficit disorder LOL. Maybe some day I'll put them all together--maybe not.

cminor 04-03-2010 01:56 PM

I don't know if I will put them togehter or not. Right now I am just having a good time with the variety! This one is 12.5 exactly - some of the others are a bit smaller so time will tell. I am noramally drawn to pink/purple, things like that. I am trying to venture out in more colors but it is slow going :)

This one was pretty hard for me. I think I just got distracted with my husband playing with his new cell phone. But I am happy with how it turned out.

clem55 04-03-2010 02:34 PM

All are great looking, but I love the lavender best.

rootyr 04-03-2010 02:36 PM

Very nice!

sewjoyce 04-03-2010 02:38 PM

I think it's a great idea!! You're doing your own BOM! :D

jljack 04-03-2010 02:41 PM

Lovely blocks. I have a hard time looking around Quilters Cache, because I always get stuck looking at the first few, wondering how I could use them, and which fabric to use!! :-) I LOVE Marcia's blocks, and there are so many of them!!!!

Jim's Gem 04-03-2010 03:09 PM

Nice blocks!!

bj 04-03-2010 03:11 PM

Nice job on your blocks. I like to make blocks when I'm between projects. That's why sampler quilts are a lot of fun.

cminor 04-03-2010 03:16 PM

There are just a ton, and I do the same thing Jljack :) So last week I had my husband pick some out. Today I decided just to try and work my way down the list. I even sent her a picture of this one. I love looking at the examples of the other people that make the blocks to see how they used the colors.

thimblebug6000 04-03-2010 03:35 PM

I think it's a great idea, I love her site, and chose some scraps that "went" together & made 2 donation quilts from misc. 12" blocks from her site, unfortunately the pictures didn't work out & I gave them away before I found out.

littlehud 04-03-2010 04:38 PM

Those are all beautiful blocks. Maybe they will become a sampler quilt.

amma 04-03-2010 10:58 PM

They are all beautiful, you will have the makings of some lovely sampler quilts :D:D:D

bitty39 04-04-2010 01:29 AM

They are beautiful, sorry but is the bottom row of the second one upside down? better to ask nowthen when you have it totally in a quilt?

Kara 04-04-2010 03:09 AM

Nice work! I see a sampler in your future :)

wvdek 04-04-2010 04:19 AM

I commend you for being honest and doing one block at a time. I too find it hard to do several blocks of the same.

I believe you have the bottom row of the Lebanon block on upside down. Is the lavendar one suppossed to be a mirror image on opposite sides? My eye is drawn to several different areas and looks a little off. I do not mean to be critical by any means, but if they need correcting, better now than when put together.

Otherwise, you will have a lovely quilt when done. Look forward to seeing more.

cminor 04-04-2010 04:22 AM

Yes bitty29 - it sure is. I was going to take it all apart, but changed my mind. It is what it is :)

When I look at the purple and white block things look off to me too - but I don't know why. I am trying not to be so critical of my stuff as most people (other than quilters) would even notice Thanks though - had I not know, and saw it later - it would have put me over the edge!!

danmar 04-04-2010 04:34 AM

It's going to be a great Sampler quilt. Great blocks. I love Quilter's Cache. They have so many pretty blocks.

DJ 04-04-2010 05:27 AM

That really sounds and looks like fun! Are you making them all the same size or just using ones that especially appeal to you? They have so many to choose from. You'll be busy forever!

dglvr 04-04-2010 06:31 AM

Your doing a great job on all the blocks. Thats a great idea to mix them up. How many are you going to do total?

cminor 04-04-2010 08:33 AM

I don't know if I will every put it together. Right now it is just to practice and learn. I feel like I actually have something acomplished when I get one of these done vs. doing a lap quilt with all basic squares and never feeling like it is anything special. I have a couple of those started, but they are just not interesting enough. My hope is to keep doing one block at a time - and I think I will keep it consistant with a color and white. Maybe some day I will find one I like enough to make a whole quilt with. Until then - block by blcok!

I just finsished the green one. By far the worst one I have done so far. I don't think I got any point to line up, it is not square at all, and looks a bit crocked in the middle! I showed my DH and DD and they said it looked good. I think they were being nice, but I also know them well enough that if they noticed all the problems I did - they would not be shy about telling me!

cminor 04-04-2010 08:57 AM

I can't get the green one added. I will try again later :) My computer has been acting up. :)

craftybear 04-04-2010 09:54 AM

Love your blocks! Great Job!

Grinster 04-04-2010 10:01 AM

I love your dragonfly fabric! Who makes it?

Sheila Elaine 04-04-2010 10:03 AM

Add sashings & you could turn these coordinating ones into small pillows, or sew them all together for a lap quilt. Play with them once you get a few done to see what placement you like. Practice will give you more confident & I think you're making great progress.

I am not sure Grinster. I got it as a reminence (sp) at Joannes so there was no info. They do have this on bolts in different colors - I will take a look next time I go. :)

Finally - the green one

Ok, one more for today. The picture does not do it justice. I had to do another after that attempt at the green! :)

i think you're doing a great job. your blocks are pretty & just think what you are learning! and what you could DO with what you made! one block IS enough unless you really really like it! keep up the great work!

estherblair 04-04-2010 05:14 PM

Your having fun later you have fun putting them together

judee0624 04-04-2010 05:43 PM

:-D Very nice job! You are probably ready to do a BOM. Find an easy one. There are loads of frree ones on the Internet.

Being new to quilting I like to also make blocks before I start on a new project to see how I like it and how it goes together for me. I do pick fabrics that compliment each other and when I'm done I finish it just like you would a quilt. I have made blocks from 8" to 15" and keep some and give the others to my sister. We hang them in our sewing rooms.

fireworkslover 04-05-2010 05:10 AM

I too get bored making the same block over and over. At least if I am using the same block pattern, the fabrics are different, usually. Right now I'm finishing up a quilt made from pieced circles. Each circle is 8 diamond pieced sections (11 pieces each) and 16 pie shaped pieced sections (8 pieces each). That's 216 pieces in each circle! I've 2 diamonds left to make. Then add background and put it all together.

merryhare 04-05-2010 06:57 AM

I did that once-- made about 25 blocks using not all the same colors or fabrics. Then laid them out, rejecting any that just stuck out too much (actually, I removed all of the red/green ones that were from christmas fabric). I used a black print sashing all around and it turned out beautiful! So, you have the beginnings of a sampler quilt.
