Hi everyone,

I had this idea awhile ago, and finally got around to production. I have a couple dozen made up now. My LQS thinks she can get $5.00 for one. I'd like to know what you all think about that price. FYI, thay are just under 3" tall, not including the hanging string.

I apologize, the fabrics came out a little dark in the photos.

renee765 11-14-2009 06:29 AM

That is really cute! If my LQS had them, I would definitely buy one.

Those are adorable! Don't know about the price but I would definitely buy one for my tree! Great job!!!

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 11-14-2009 06:32 AM

Adorable! Everyone will want one for their guild gift exchange.

grammy Dwynn 11-14-2009 06:35 AM

cute, cute

sandpat 11-14-2009 06:39 AM

Thats exactly what I was thinking....gift exchange!!! I love it! Those must be kinda smallish...hard to work with. I know my LQS would get more than 5 bucks. I don't think she sells anything for 5 bucks...well, maybe FQs...

jdavis 11-14-2009 06:55 AM

Thank you all for the input.....will take all I can get!

wvdek 11-14-2009 07:16 AM

I want one! Sew cute.

grammy Dwynn 11-14-2009 07:50 AM

What nice ornaments..... just right for a special quilter!!

patricej 11-14-2009 08:05 AM

it rivals a Hallmark ornament. it's worth a lot more than $5, for sure. consider the time involved ... plus the supplies ... now add the "WOW!!!" factor.

sewsewquilter 11-14-2009 08:09 AM

Very clever! And very cute. Will $5 cover the cost of making them?

jdavis 11-14-2009 08:28 AM

Thanks for all the great input!

sewsewquilter,
yes, $5.00 more than covers the cost of materials.
The rotary cutter and pincushion take the most time, making this one of those things for which I will never get paid for my time.
Right now I'm unemployed, so I do have a little crafting time, if I don't have to do a lot of running around.

Charlee 11-14-2009 08:32 AM

I absolutely LOVE it!! That's darling, and I can't think of a quilter that wouldn't love to have one!

Sandy1951 11-14-2009 08:33 AM

Those are adorable! I'll bet they sell quickly.

joeyoz 11-14-2009 10:38 AM

OMG! Those are darling. Great idea.

Esqmommy 11-14-2009 10:44 AM

That is an absolute must for any quilter on your list!! I'd love one on my tree! Way cool - you should market those to LQS's across the nation!!

Shemjo 11-14-2009 10:56 AM

That is really cute. Looks like a great gift exchange item for quilds.

ranger 11-14-2009 11:27 AM

What a neat ornament for a quilter's Christmas tree. I love it.

dglvr 11-14-2009 11:34 AM

Okay those are very cute. If you make enough I'll buy 3.

NorBanaquilts 11-14-2009 12:13 PM

That is so cute, I want one!

jdavis 11-14-2009 01:33 PM

Wow! thanks for the great response!

So $5.00 doesn't scare any of you?

dglvr 11-14-2009 01:41 PM

Are you kidding? $5.00 does that pay for your supplies? I would take 3 of them but $5.00 is a bit low I think.

Butterfli19 11-14-2009 01:53 PM

Those are wonderful! How did you make the rotary cutter and pincushion and cutting board? Very, very, clever.

I would definitely charge more than $5. Have you considered selling those and other similar items on etsy?

Love2Quilt 11-14-2009 02:18 PM

Love It.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

mumtoliam 11-14-2009 03:08 PM

I would love to own one too!

sandpat 11-14-2009 04:01 PM

Thats what I'm thinking....$5.00 is too low...

b.zang 11-14-2009 04:20 PM

Now those are absolutely adorable! How quickly can you ship those out? Me thinks I'm not the only person around here who would like one. Check into postage, add that on along with the cost of a trip to the post office and let me know how much to send.

Esqmommy 11-14-2009 04:25 PM

I'm thinking you could sell that at a LQS for at least 8.95, although I know they would cost more in your time. It's just when you see most ornaments, folks don't want to spend more than $10. So, if you charged 6.00 each to the retailer, then the LQS would charge 8.95 (they want a profit too), then I think it would sell well! There's some quilt shop owners here...what do you think?

Marcia 11-14-2009 04:30 PM

Wow---those are just way too cute!! I would buy one for myself and several of my quilt buddies if I saw them at my LQS.

sandpat 11-14-2009 04:37 PM

I would buy them even at $9.95...I agree though, topping $10. makes it harder to move.

Pam G 11-14-2009 04:39 PM

I agree with esqmommy $8.95 sounds about right, make sure you find out how much the LQS is gonna sell them for. Are they going to buy them from you or consign. They will be more motivated to sell them if its part of their inventory. Label them so if someone who buys one can contact you later if they decide they want more. Was just at KMart and they have one thats NOT as cute as yours for $7.99

marsye 11-14-2009 04:42 PM

add a miniature spool of thread and a tiny pair of scissors and slap 8.95 on those adorable lil' dudes!

jdavis 11-14-2009 04:57 PM

Whoa everybody!
dglvr & b.zang, you know I can't sell them right here! You'll have to think of another way to get them!

PamG, Esqmommy & Sandpat, I wouldn't pay $8.95 or $9.95!!!

PamG, what's this about Kmart? Is it the same idea? I'm crushed!

Marsye, they already take a long time to make, and you want me to add more? You're killing me! Actually, I am looking into the scissor option, but so far it looks like it would increase my expenses quite a bit. So I would offer either the rotary cutter and ruler, or the scissors.

I really appreciate all the response from everyone...But I'm still choking after the $8.95 suggestion!

emmy 11-14-2009 05:07 PM

What a wonderful idea. I think you should be getting (at least) $5. When you have a chance, look at the prices your LQS is getting for quilting related items such as charms, notecards, lanyards etc. That might help with the pricing dilemma. Wishing you well in your new endeavor.

mcdaniel023 11-14-2009 05:14 PM

I would buy one for $8.95. My first thought was would she mail me one for $10. I love it.

marsye 11-14-2009 05:27 PM

I do well on Ebay and Etsy.

RedGarnet222 11-14-2009 05:46 PM

You can't put them in the quilters buy sell and trade section of this board and sell them to us? Other people sell things in there that they made.

tlrnhi 11-15-2009 02:57 AM

Where do I sign up to get a couple of these cuties????

Chele 11-15-2009 03:49 AM

How cute! I bet you sell out!

beachlady 11-15-2009 04:52 AM

I think that $5.00 is NOT enough $ to charge for this too. I was looking at some regular ornaments in a discount store that other day (China) and they were more than $5.00! The time you took making them must be more than $5.00. I would love one or two also - for gifts!
