Quilting Outside the Box

2 Attachment(s)
I was reading about quilting outside your comfort zone and decided to share my experience. My dear sister "forced" me to make a very nontraditional quilt. I will admit it is Not my favorite, but it sure was fun to make! I quilted each piece of fabric differently which really added to the fun.

Great quilt and great practice. FMQ takes a lot of practice!

Mitty 01-03-2018 06:27 AM

I like the colors, and it looks absolutely fantastic on the bed.

I need to get outside of my comfort zone more, but I will only do it with something smaller than a king-sized quilt! That was really ambitious on your part. Thanks for sharing, I need a little kick in the rear.

ArtsyOne 01-03-2018 08:15 AM

I've always liked the brown/black combination. You've done a great job on the quilting too!

jokir44 01-03-2018 08:39 AM

A masterful job. I'm not a really big fan of modern quilts but I certainly do like this one.

LindaMRB 01-03-2018 08:58 AM

If you're not accustomed to non-traditional quilts, you sure pulled this one off. It's great and I love all the different quilting.

Tartan 01-03-2018 09:10 AM

Great modern looking quilt!

Mariposa 01-03-2018 09:32 AM

Terrific quilt! Looks more modern, and the quilting really adds fun dimension with the designs.

Boston1954 01-03-2018 09:45 AM

I'm not one for stretching either, so I understand. But I must tell you that your quilt is wonderful.

anne2016 01-03-2018 09:53 AM

cheryl.....I love your quilt! It looks so elegant.
Did you use a set pattern or just wing it?
I am going to start practicing FMQuilting next week. It will certainly be outside my comfort zone. It is my 2018 quilting goal to become proficient with meandering/stippling.

Stunning work!! You should be very proud...this is lovely!!

It's fun to quilt outside the box! You never know what it'll be like in the end once finished, but somehow they usually look pretty good, as does yours! It's very nice and good practice treating each piece separately! Great job!!

jlt37869 01-03-2018 05:08 PM

I understand that "shouting" is not allowed on this board but cheryl deserves to be shouting on that one! Love the colors but look at the size of that quilt. Very well done, dear. You deserve a shout!!!!

Beehiveof9 01-04-2018 07:21 AM

Love, love, love the quilting. You did great!

lue 01-04-2018 08:48 AM

Well it may not be your favorite but I surely do like it!! What a wonderful idea to quilt it that way. Wish I could see more of the other blocks and how you quilted them. You must be so proud!!

Oh I love it would you be willing to share the name of the pattern.

JanieH 01-04-2018 11:12 AM

Such a wonderful quilt and, like others, I would love to know if you used a pattern and, if so, which one.

Your color combinations are great and I love the pillow shams you made to go with it.

daytongal 01-04-2018 11:26 AM

Sandrea 01-04-2018 04:32 PM

It's probably not something I would use in my home, simply because my house is done in antiques so it wouldn't "go". However, that being said, I think it's a wonderful quilt and love that you quilted each bit differently. Good job.
