A woman from guild brought this one in for me to quilt for her - still practicing with those feathers on the long arm but they are looking better! :)

giquilt 02-12-2013 04:40 AM

Looks like a tuff feather pattern.

lin 02-12-2013 05:20 AM

Your feathers look good! REALLY good!! Doesn't it feel wonderful when your feathers finally look like you've been imagining them in your head? :) Your customer will be thrilled with your quilting. I would be. I can't wait to see what you do with the rest of the quilts!

Homespun 02-12-2013 05:23 AM

Great looking to me!

gabeway 02-12-2013 05:28 AM

It looks very good to me too.

red-warrior 02-12-2013 05:40 AM

Looks like you are progressing well!

pumpkinpatchquilter 02-12-2013 06:36 AM

Thank you guys!!

I'm having so much fun. I'm washing the backing fabric before putting the next quilt on the frame - I'm going to try some different feathers without backtracking. I feel like the shape isn't so bad it's just the spines I don't like. :)

labug 02-12-2013 07:53 AM

Looks great keep up the great work

oma66 02-12-2013 08:17 AM

You did a fabulous job and the owner is going to be very pleased, I know I would be if it were my quilt.

QuiltnNan 02-12-2013 09:51 AM

nice quilting

Pollytink 02-12-2013 11:28 AM

Your feathers look perfect and really highlight the quilt! When you say "Prim Cheater", do you mean this is a pre-printed "cheater" top? I love the "folk art" design of it and would love to know where she found it!!

Sewfine 02-12-2013 11:38 AM

Beautiful, love the colors.

Tweety2911 02-12-2013 02:49 PM

Your quilting makes this quilt standout beautifully!

BuzzinBumble 02-12-2013 03:08 PM

What a great way to practice and a wonderful result! Miz Pumpkin, you do beautiful quilting! I like how Jan calls cheater panels "efficiency panels". When you look at them as whole cloth and quilt them like that there is nothing cheating about them.

redquilter 02-12-2013 03:27 PM

Lookin' good!

blueangel 02-12-2013 03:44 PM

It is gorgeous. Good job.

maryb119 02-13-2013 07:40 AM

Great job! I can't make nice feathers. I get one side right but I can't get the other side. Any advice?

pumpkinpatchquilter 02-13-2013 10:17 AM

Thank you so much guys! She picked up the quilt yesterday and was really happy and even paid me a little more than I asked...so I felt pretty good! :)

Yes, a pre-printed panel! No piecing except in the borders. She added the green, black, and piano key borders. If you do a google search for prim panel it comes up in the photos! I don't know what designer this is but I do know she bought it at a quilt shop locally. :)

Thank you!! You know what, I think the next video I do for YouTube is going to be on feathers. I can do them well on my domestic but they are pretty tricky on my long arm.

What style of feathers are you making now? I like "bump-bump" feathers best. Those are feathers where I draw a line for the spine and begin making plumes at the base of the spine.

When I first started making feathers I basically just drew half hearts and trailed my way along the sashings of a quilt. Then I progressed to actual feather plumes and where the base of the plumes would meet a spine would be formed. I drew no line first.

I cannot just draw a spine and then feather up one side and feather back down the other. I don't know how you're making yours but you could feather up the right side, then back track down the spine to get back to the base and feather back up the left side. OR feather up one side then tightly echo around the feather plumes to avoid thread build up, and feather back up the other side. Both of those ways work well for me. Good luck!!!

HappyQuilter 02-14-2013 07:13 AM

It looks great! Really enhances the quilt quite nicely!

dcamarote 02-14-2013 07:15 AM

I love the quilt and also your feathers. I tried feathers at a FMQ class and they looked nothing like yours. Great job.

imnywoman 02-14-2013 07:27 AM

I love that top!! And you did a remarkable job of quilting those feathers in the triangles, that seems like a lot of work. It turned out beautifully!

sewnsewer2 02-14-2013 07:31 AM

I love it!!!

matraina 02-14-2013 07:43 AM
