As we were cleaning out the attic last weekned, I found these two quilts in a bag. Apparently they were made by my late MIL and ended up in the attic when my husband closed up her apartment in CA. They were smelly and stained so I threw them in the wash with some ammonia and they came out OK. The Sunbonnet Sue is done in muslin with the blocks set on point. Both were handquilted. Thought I would share my find.

I really like the sun bonnet sue quilt. both are very cool. I'd be happy if I found something that neat in my attic. Hope you enjoy them both. Nice Find.

Look at the detail with the black thread on the last picture. Nice!! Kind of gives a brief glimpse of the person that did all this meticulous handwork.

Thank you for sharing them. If she is looking down on you, I am sure she is pleased. There is a lot of work in those quilts to just be stored in an attic.

So glad you saved these heirlooms. We might all be amazed at what is "hiding" in our attics and basements. This is a good reminder to go looking into those stored spaces. Beautiful find. Thank you for sharing.

The first Sunbonnet Sue is one I have not seen yet. I know she put a lot of time in making these quilts.
