As we were cleaning out the attic last weekned, I found these two quilts in a bag. Apparently they were made by my late MIL and ended up in the attic when my husband closed up her apartment in CA. They were smelly and stained so I threw them in the wash with some ammonia and they came out OK. The Sunbonnet Sue is done in muslin with the blocks set on point. Both were handquilted. Thought I would share my find.

Look at the detail with the black thread on the last picture. Nice!! Kind of gives a brief glimpse of the person that did all this meticulous handwork.

So glad you saved these heirlooms. We might all be amazed at what is "hiding" in our attics and basements. This is a good reminder to go looking into those stored spaces. Beautiful find. Thank you for sharing.
