Quilts in the Berkshires
2 Attachment(s)
Dh and I went to Shelbourne Falls, Ma today to my favorite quilt shop (A Notion to Quilt). It's in the Birkshires and is beautiful. He's never been there before. Me, several times. There are 2 spectacular attractions there. The first are the Glacial Potholes that are millions of years old. You have to see them to believe it. Then we walked over the Bridge of Flowers. Not quite in full bloom yet. I brought 2 quilts with me that I just finished and took a couple of photos. The first is a black and white large tumbler. The second is a jelly roll race that I was not happy with, so I appliqued circles to add to it because it was too flowery. Joe is not the greatest photographer, so I had to settle with what he did. I also had to buy him lunch in town. It's a wonderful tourist attraction if you're ever in the area. The bridge goes over the Deerfield River and the Berkshire Mountains are in the background. It was a beautiful day.

What a beautiful place....I think the circles on the jelly roll quilt work well, brings a touch of pizzazz. The tumbler quilt is very cool. What a great idea to take your quilts along.....thanks for thinking of us and sharing.

Here is what the Potholes look like. This area has flooded many times. Actually, the quilt shop was located there and had to move because they were flooded. It's so unbelievable.

That is a beautiful place. The quilt shops there are also great. They have a campground not to far from one of the quilt shops where they have a quilters weekend. Nice quiet campground. I personally do not care for those jelly role run quilts, you did a great job at giving it som oomph. If I was a beginner the would make the jelly roll run and become bored. Great job on both of them. They also have great hiking out there. Highest peak in Massachusetts , Mount Greylock,it's beautiful.

Hey,
A Notion to Quilt is also one of my favorite shops too. I forgot about the Bridge. Must go there soon and get some pics. I have met so many quilters who have done the jelly roll quilt and really did not care for it, so appliqued something all over. I did butterflies on mine. GReat minds, Huh. |
The addition of the circles really made this quilt something special. Very good idea. I like both quilts a lot.
|
Love your quilts!
|
I've been to the places you mentioned and you're right - they are well worth the trip. Bonus - beautiful backdrop for your beautiful quilts. Well done!

Nice quilts and lovely trip.

Thank you for your wonderful comments. It always makes a quilter feel special. Sometimes you never get a response from the recipients of the quilts you give away. I mark them in my book as not being quilt worthy and NEVER make another one for them. AND I forgot to mention, that I only paid $12.99 for the jelly roll. It was fairly ugly when it was together because it was all floral fabrics. If I had time, I would have added some coordinating fabrics to pretty it up. Instead, I decided to add the circles which I cut from my Accuquilt and Martelli circle templates. I make several tumbler quilts in all different colors and the scrappy ones are my favorite. I've never made a Civil War quilt and that is my next attempt. I've been collecting fabrics for a couple of years wherever I go. Then I have to find an old barn to photograph it. Thanks again for looking.
