Hi, I do glue them down lightly using a glue stick, the kind thy used in classrooms. I first center the doilie on the fabric then I fold it in half, lightly rub the glue stick on the edges as well as a few other spots, especially the areas I will be sewing. I place that part back then fold the other side...I don`t use a lot of glue. After I sew the edges and other areas I want, I turn it upside down and I iron the backside just to make sure the glue is dry.

I was one asking for your photos. They are fantastic.
At the Madison Quilt Expo earlier this month, a presenter told us about putting doilies on quilts. She showed us some sticky stuff to use for that. I went to her booth and bought some of it later. It is called Appli-Web Plus. Sheer Softness. But I don't understand what would happen to it if I used it for doilies or tatting. These have lots of "holes" and what happens in those holes with the web. The detailed directions inside say nothing about using it for doilies. Do you ever "Paste" yours down?

I made one similar to the 1st and gave it to my granddaughter along with a couple of other quilts. My exdaughterinlaw didn't pay her storage fees and Lost them all...........guess they weren't that important to them. Sad.

This is so sad. My grandmother had many hand made quilts too and when she passed my parents threw them away. Unknown to me until too late. You ex daughterinlaw will be sorry one day.

Your quilts are all beautiful. I'd saved a lot of doilies and embroidered handkerchiefs from my grandmother with the thought of someday maybe making a quilt. When I donwsized, my daughter took them. Hmmm... maybe it's time to give her a nudge.

I love what you have done with the vintage embroidered items. What a wonderful way to save them. A sampler of some beautiful hand work.
