I got some stars done, just the white ones for now. I will work on the dark ones later today. I set some blocks and stars on the board so you can see how it's put together. If you look at the left you can see the start of the pattern.

MY board won't be big enough to set these blocks up for a king size. I will have to add a shelf or table to my bed to set them up as you have to see what goes where lol.

I am still happily sewing the blocks, not bored in the least.

Looking gorgeous! I really love the splashes of red in there!

Just wanted to say we have Silver Sneakers at our YMCA also. Lots of different programs, even Zumba. I think it's a great way to stay fit!

Yes we have it also at any gym and YMCA as well. I think it's wonderful. I love that we have an instructor that is very experienced and he knows how much to tell you to do. I have been going for two months straight now, four times a week and love it.

What a great stash. I want to come shopping at your house!!! LOL

I am a fairly new quilter and am always amazed at what my friends have stored away in bins. So far I can hang all my large pieces of fabric on hangars in my hall coat closet, and I have my fat quarters and batik 1/2 yard collection laying flat in a dresser.

You have a good start. I would never have this much fabric if I didn't get great deals on buy outs from ex-quilters lol and donations from friends, who wanted to scale down. I never refuse free fabric lol. I do sew an aweful lot and believe me, I need lots to choose from when I start a quilt. Thanks to my collecting for years that now I don't have to buy even a fat quarter lol.....I would find it hard to pay the price of good yardage now.

Another thing, I only have scraps in bins. I have to be able to see all the fabric. I have all my fabrics stored on book shelves and drawers that I can pull out and see at a glance, they are all grouped by color and batiks are separate too and color grouped.

Beautiful blocks!

Rosyhf 04-17-2013 03:05 PM

I have started on the small stars again......

barri1 04-17-2013 04:50 PM

Think I need to visit you, and check all your fabrics. I love the ones you chose.
As for the dogs.. They look like they are very loved. I wouldn't think of living without a dog..

I finally finished the 44 small stars that go around the border, wheeeeeeeeee....22 white stars and 22 dark blue, I did 15 today.

Now all I have to do is sew the blocks together as all the blocks are done. I thought I'd show you the sea of stars lol..

fxsts93kf 04-24-2013 08:37 PM

Beautiful stars!! I am so anxious to see it take shape!

twospoiledhuskies 04-25-2013 04:50 AM

I love your color choice for this pattern. I think it will be very beautiful. Your puppies are adorable. All of my kids are
very happy to be my inspectors everytime I am quilting. They are very good assistants 8D

I think its going to be very pretty. It almost looks like the Snail Trail pattern.

I thought I'd show you some more tips. Here is a strip cut for at a 45 degree angle and now it needs to be cut in half to make two triangles. Even tho I cut very precise, I still use the template out of the book to make sure. I lay the template down on the strip and put my ruler's 1/4 ins on the 1/4 ins line of the template and cut. Sure enough, I had a little left over.

I have been sewing the blocks together and then some of the rows. I had to extend the bed with cardboard in order to see the blocks.

Here is some of the work. I am on the eight row and find that I have to make a few more Reels, about six and a couple large stars, but that should do it. What a project.

Since the blocks have to be set up on point, it takes a lot of room.

Also Molly says Hi lol.

I have finally finished this quilt yesterday. We took pics of it outside. John put a tarp on the grass as I wanted you to see the entire quilt and the effects of the stars and reels. I also layed a sheet on top of the tarp, just in case lol.

So while we had the tarp down, I decided to take several of my kings size quilts and take pics also of them.

I don't really care for the ground view so John will rig up the old swing with a pole on the back so I can hang them and only have a few inches on the tarp and that should work better.

fxsts93kf 05-24-2013 09:39 AM

Stunning! I knew it was going to be beautiful!

More better Pics

Ok these are way better pics of this quilt. I am so proud of it. Hubby rigged up some long poles and we put a couple sheets on the ground and pinned the quilt to the line and this way you can really see the effect of the reels and the stars.

Rosey, Your Pineapple is one of those jaw dropping, gorgeous, how did you do it! kind of quilts. And now this next one is also working its way to the same stunningly beautiful category.

Love them both. Thank you for all your inspiration.

I have that Diamond pineapple book......!

Ube you can do that pineapple quilt. I did do a tut on it. You have to make a freezer pattern to make the many blocks or you can get her packet of paper patterns.

I always seem to migrate to the challenging ones don't I? lol. I have sewed professionally for many years now Ube. Now I only sew what pleases me. I haven't found a quilt yet, that I couldn't make lol.....

fxsts93kf 05-25-2013 10:24 AM

Much better view! I'm going to have to get the book because that is a challenge I would love to take on! Your friends are going to cherish this gift from you....your a special friend to make this beautiful quilt for them!
