Since I have to raise $2300 to walk in my fifth Susan G. Komen for the Cure Breast Cancer 3-Day event, I did what any good quilter would do. I made a quilt to raffle! :-)
I've found that larger quilts sell more tickets and quilts that are pretty "gender friendly" work best. (This quilt is 84" x 104".)I know that many might consider this quilt to be more feminine than neutral, but the reproduction "look" has served me well in the past. A couple of years ago, a gentleman walked up to me at a craft fair and bought tickets (against his wife's wishes). He said that the fabric in the quilt reminded him of his grandmother and even though he had no real use for the quilt, (especially one that didn't match ANYTHING in his house), he would love to win it because it would remind him of his grandmother every time he looked at it. Unfortunately, he didn't win but I loved talking to him. I'm hoping this quilt stirs lots of memories for people also! Of course, getting the wallets stirring wouldn't be so bad either. :-) Breast Cancer 3-Day Raffle Quilt |

|
It's very beautiful I could see that on my bed. I would buy tickets if I were closer. Good luck I hope you make lots of money.

I think this is a wonderful pattern and fabric to use for the raffle...it's gorgeous! And yes, it definitely makes me think of the old quilts that my great grandmothers made!! I think that's what makes it so appealing!

I've done the 3 Day twice. I walked it back in June 2000 in Chicago and I crewed it in Philadelphia in October 2005. Both were amazing experiences! Since then I was diagnosed myself and am currently 18 months cancer free. Someday I'd like to get back into shape and do it again. It would be even more meaningful to walk it as a survivor!Plus I'd get the pink shirt! ;0) Do you have a link where I can donate toward your goal?

p.s. Forgot to mention that making a quilt to raffle is a brilliant idea for raising money!

|
I'm near Lake Erie, but in the past I've sold tickets all over Ohio and even out of state. If anyone is interested, they can e-mail me.
Two years ago the winner was from Chicago, IL and last year's winner was from Miamisburg, OH. I have no problems shipping the quilt to the winner. |
Past winners have been from out of my area and I've shipped the quilt to them. Wouldn't that make getting the mail fun!! :-)
|
A lovely and colorful quilt. I'd love to win it!

I've walked in Cleveland three times, crewed in Cleveland once and walked in Dallas once, and it has been amazing each time. I've walked with my daughter three times, my husband once and we all crewed together once. I'll be walking with my daughter again this year and probably again next year, and the next year, etc.....
When the walk first came to Cleveland my then 17 year-old daughter asked if I would walk with her because she really wanted to do something rather than just give money. Well, I said yes because you just don't say no when your teenager wants to do something so philanthropic. Of course the joke here is that I must have been drunk to agree to walk 60 miles in 3 days. :-) Anyway, that first year was amazing despite the rain and 50 degree temperatures and we just keep on doing it. Every year since 2007 we've had at least two people from the family walk and I've always been one of them. In that time, our family has raised a little over $25,000 and we couldn't be happier. We're looking for the day when we won't have to do this any more, but until then, I'll keep walking and making quilts to raffle. Congratulations on your 18 months!! You are the reason we walk!! We want to hear more about those that survive and less about those that don't. Fortunately neither of us has been afflicted by this disease, but we know that the chances are there and we really just feel like we have to do something. To donate to my fund you can go to the 3-Day website http://www.the3day.org Click on the Donate to a Participant (right hand side) and do a search for me - Joanne Hubbard Thanks and again, congratulations on the 18 months. Here's to the next 18! |
