Here's a couple of pics of a rag quilt that I made for a customer's daughter for Christmas. It's made from all flannels and is full size, measuring 80" x 88". A very warm, cozy quilt!

That is beautiful. I hope you didn't use scissors and used a die...you'll end up with carpal tunnel after all that cutting...:)

Very pretty, nice border, and one of the nicest rag quilts I have seen.

Eddie, Your quilts are beautiful, such marvelous ideas. Of course, being from Arkansas shows exactly where there is a lot of talent. I'm from Arkansas Originally and can remember the wonderful quilters there. Congratulations on your awards!

Thumbs up - AGAIN!!

You do gorgeous quilts and your longarm quilting is beautiful. What do you charge for doing a quilt like this, if you don't mind asking. Thanks

sueisallaboutquilts 12-06-2010 06:48 AM

That's nice Eddie!! I would like to do one but haven't yet :)

yolanda 12-06-2010 06:49 AM

That is one big rag quilt - viewing it has reinspired me to start making rag quilts again. I have made many for dialyses patients (they get very cold during treatments) but got somewhat burned out on making the rag quilts - and I have a die cutter that does the snipping for me! :-)

JANW 12-06-2010 04:17 PM

What did you use for batting. It"s really nice looking

No batting, just two layers of flannel with an 'X' sewn across each block for quilting. I did a meandering quilting through the borders. It is plenty heavy and warm with just the two layers of flannel.

The fabrics for this one cost about $140. This was for a very good friend, so I didn't charge her anything but for the fabrics. If I were doing if for a regular customer, I'd probably charge about $100 for the construction of it as well. But as much as I like rag quilts, I don't think I want to make another one anytime soon. :D

Eddie 12-06-2010 05:28 PM

P.S. I asked my friend what she wanted on the label, and basically it was "Merry Christmas, <name>" and then "Love, Mom and Dad, 2010". When I gave it to my friend today and she read the label she looked like she was on the verge of tears. Made it all worth it. :D

Thank you for this - I'm going through severe avoidance making a flannel rag quilt right now, and now I'm inspired again. This is lovely, mine will only be average...
