Your quilts look so soft and cuddly. The best Rag quilts I have seen yet

I have explored internet and I could find not evidence of rag quilts being a choking hazard. There were many claims that it could be one, but no emperical evidence that it could happen.

In addition, I have a flannel rag quilt which I wash often and it has never clogged my washer.

You have raised valid concerns. I would hate to use a quilt that would cause damage to a child or my machines.

Does anyone know this to be true?

I made a denim raggedy quilt that did clog my washing machine the first time it was washed! I doubt if there would be that much problem after the first washing. After I made the second quilt, I sent it to a friend that had an old wringer washing machine and she washed it for me in that. I had to take the pump off my washing machine after washing the first quilt and clean it out. Not fun.

Very cute!! I love rag quilts and have made lots of them because they are fairly easy and everyone loves them because they are so cuddly. Good job!!

I made rag quilts for my granddaughters and they threw them away. They thought they were torn. Now why would I give them torn quilts??? I guess the raggy look didn't get popular in So. Calif. Their loss. I haven't made them any others, either. I do love them, too.

I am so sorry that your granddaughters threw your quilts away.
I just bought tons of flannel to make my 8 grandchildren raggy quilts for Christmas. When my hubby saw the first one, he said, "They are not going to appreciate them." I said "I think they will." He said "No, they are used to having the best of everything, they won't think of them as the best." Now I am having second thoughts. Should I waste my time?

My sister in Ohio makes them all the time, too.

Love your raggy flower quilt!!! That is so fun. I am making my first rag quilt for my youngest son to take to college. Hopefully I will get it done before it gets cold!

I love the rag quilts but the first one I made ruined my washing machine and I had to call a repairman and ended up getting a new machine. Now I take them to the local laundry mat for the first washing. I'm not taking anymore chances. My laundry is in the basement and the water has to pump up to get out, that may make it a lot worse.

Another caution: be sure to clean out the filter in the dryer often while drying the quilt. You wouldn't want to start a fire in there. it piles up quickly. And of course you don't want baby to choke on the lint that continues to release for a while.

Can you buy a kit. I understand it is made out of flannel.
Or do you know where I can find directions. I would love to make one.
