Be really careful of those quilts, as I understand that can jam up a washing system and little ones will chew on the edge and get strings caught in their throats. I don't know - I haven't made any so I am only guessing that the person who told me that knew what she was talking about.

I like it. The colors are great and the rose is unique. Good job.

Beautiful!!

thanks ladies, my grandkids are over 10 yrs, old. I agree about young babies and the strings...I would not give one to a younger child.

In addition, I have a flannel rag quilt which I wash often and it has never clogged my washer. You have raised valid concerns. I would hate to use a quilt that would cause damage to a child or my machines. Does anyone know this to be true? |
Really love rag quilts. The roses are so pretty. And I agree
making rag quilts is so much fun. |
As I stated, I did not know personally about them. However, it does make sense if you stop and think about it.
I really like this one. Dodee |
Oh I forgot, I like your quilt. I like how you layered the roses.
|

What a grogeous Rag Quilt!! I love the flower's you have put on it. They are so pretty!!
:D :D :D :D |
I am only posting this because it has been quite expensive for me. I live in town and have two very large pine trees in the front yard. The roots run the length of my house and cause sewer problems. I don't wash rag quilts the first 3 or 4 times in my washer because the plumber said the combination of tree roots and the huge amount of thread from the quilt cause problems for me. I don't know how many people have issues like mine, but I know I don't have the only trees. Something to consider when you look at washing these.
By the way, it is beautiful. |
Really cute and looks so comfy!

RAG QUILTS ARE MY FAVS......AND YOURS IS SOOOOO BEAUTIFUL !!!! bopeep |
Very creative, and so soft and cuddly looking. You did an excellent job.
|
Hi Love your ragged Qt, especially the rose great Idea.Did you use all flannel, turned out great.
|
First off, with any rag quilt, I first get it wet in the washer and spin it dry without agitating to keep from killing the pump on my machine. Then I put it in the dryer and clean the filter every 10 minutes or so just to get the worst of the strings and lint over with. I then go back and wash it in the washer and proceed normally. I know it takes a bit longer but it's that old ounce of prevention thing because.......
I also live with a well and septic system and cannot afford any problems. I've been filtering my washer drain water for years with an end of hose drain screen. They are cheap and you can pick them up really reasonably at Home Depot so nothing goes in the drain to stop up the works. You can also make your own if you choose to. |
Thank you ladies for all the nice comments. This is my first quilt I posted was nervous..my work does not hold a candle to all the beautiful pieced quilts posted. All I know after I washed and dried it I was forever finding stray thread in my laundry room.

sally's girl.....don't be nervous....you've done a beautiful job on your quilts and we all love to see someone's work. Your's is wonderful! The quilt looks soooo comfy!
|
Do these actually cause more 'stringing' than prewashing a whole load of one yard or less fabrics?
Of course, after the first time of doing that I decided not to pre wash unless it was for swap blocks! |
That is such a cute quilt. I love the flowers. What a great touch. I thing your quilt is awesome. Thanks for sharing.

At our church we make several rag quilts and we take them to the local drop-n-wash. They wash and dry them for us so we don't have to do it at home. They are lots of fun to do and we enjoy clipping together.
