i threw this together using the blocks left over from The FWIP Named Ralph.

i used cotton fabric to back it so he qualifies as a Downy Quilt for Kids.

Great quilt-love the colors. I really like the scallopped (sp?) borders; are they hard to do? That's another thing on my list of things to try.

BKinCO 01-23-2010 06:40 AM

Love it!!!

thanks, all, for your kinds words. :-)

i used a wavy ruler to make the borders. i didn't use binding. i cut two layers of each border and turned it right-sides out after sewing around the edges. on the back i just turned under the straight edges and basted them down. when i deco-stitched the top, it fastened the back of the border at the same time.

Nice quilt...interesting technique. Can you show a close up of the border/edge area so we can see what it looks like?

Marcia 01-23-2010 08:26 AM

I love your quilt, Patrice! And the name is still cracking me up!

Esqmommy 01-23-2010 08:28 AM

Yes, quite a bit. Thanks for posting. That's an interesting technique!! Have you made a tute for it here on the board? I think a lot of people would find that incredibly useful!! So many people hate the binding part (not me, I love it, but I'm weird!!) and this seems like a great alternative.

Bevanger 01-23-2010 08:35 AM

I love it

hereca622 01-23-2010 08:42 AM

Ralphie Jr is beautiful. I know that he will brighten the day for a lucky child. I am so proud of the members of this board and their loving, giving spirit.

janRN 01-23-2010 08:56 AM

Thanks, Patrice-that helps. I was afraid to try it with binding. This looks great, and now I'm anxious to try it on a baby quilt I'm doing.
Thanks!!
