I made this using scraps just pulled from a bin. There was no measuring until the final block. Not sure I like it but used a few scraps up.

I love the radianting fans quilting! Did you do it FMQ? Would love to know how. I love scrappy quilts so it is a winner to me!

The fact that you used only strips and didn't "regulate" them comes out as a organized whole of a quilt! It is really a nice quilt! I understand the hesitation of whether you like it or not, but leave it around on the back of a chair on someplace for a few days and I bet you'll really come to like it. It harks back to what quilts started out being: practicality turned into beauty!

especially since you quilted it with a traditional pattern, the Babtist Fan. Very nice!

QuiltnNan 12-17-2012 09:17 AM

Mariposa 12-17-2012 09:20 AM

I love scrappy quilts and yours is outstanding ... perfect for a lap quilt. Thanks for sharing.

Jingle 12-17-2012 09:32 AM

Very pretty and quilting also. It is amazing no matter how many scraps you have it seems impossible to use them up. I made seven scrappy quilts and still had a ton left.

leatheflea 12-17-2012 09:36 AM

Nice use of scraps! Make sure you post it in the scrappy quilt show here on the board.

I just love scrappies. They are amazing and all look so good - no matter what combo is used. Great job.

It looks wonderful to me--I love scrappy quilts! I love the quilting--I must learn to do the Baptist Fans. Did you machine quilt it or are they hand quilted--I can't tell from the photo.

I think it's great! Sometimes we fret and over think these quilts. Our great-grandmas didn't have time for that. Have scraps, make a quilt, get it on a bed and keep a body warm. Yours has the bonus of being lovely. It's a keeper.

imnywoman 12-18-2012 05:27 AM

What's not to like?? It's perfect! Great job.

I agree the fan quilting really sets it off. Scrap quilts are alway welcome as utility quilts ready to use.

sewdamncute 12-18-2012 05:42 PM

Beautiful quilting! Scrappy's are always pretty!

Pepita 12-18-2012 08:56 PM

I didn't go through all the posts, but I suspect what you are finding you don't like is the white border. The border with the batting around it looks like too much white to balance. I have a feeling that is partly an optical issue. The batting and the border makes the white come forward while the interior recedes. After you cut off the extra batting try laying the quilt on a dark color and see if it is more to your liking. If you like it then, success! If not you could try Sawtooth triangles--(I think that is what they are called) where you take a square and fold it into quarters (triangles). Anyway, this could be a way to include the scrappy into the border or just around the edge of the quilt.
