Red and black Bargello
 

I just finished putting the borders on this red and black Bargello. I think it has turned out quite well. I normally quilt in purple or sometimes blue, so this is a new color arrangement for me. (I think I prefer purple....:) )

I think it turned out quite well too! You did a great job on the gradations from black to gray to white and also the shading in the red. Really gives the red parts depth.

Excellent color gradation. Purple is my color, but this pattern is more dramatic in these colors. Good job.

Is there a way you could direct me to this patter? I have made a bargello which I love; but it is very complicated. I'm not a fan of the "snaky" bargello patterns that I see so often. Yours is one I love; and I actually need to make a red/black/white challenge quilt. [email protected]. Thanks!

I designed this pattern myself using a free online Bargello design program called Bargello Sketcher 1.0. It took a bit of figuring out, but it has been fun playing with the program. (I am not really good at computers!) Just google it and check it out. You can make curvy or not curvy Bargello patterns.

Unfortunately, I didn't save this pattern when I made it, or I would just copy it and sent it to you.

Another way to approach this design...and I just thought of it....is to make a Trip around the World, but attach the pieces in an X pattern instead of the diamond pattern. Usually a Trip around the World has you make the top in four pieces and then attach them together. As I am sitting here looking at my quilt on my design wall, I realized that might have been a way easier way to make this quilt.

(Sorry if that isn't too clear. Go look at a Trip around the World quilt and see if you see what I am talking about.)

I have never been a fan of Bargello's and have not had a desire to even think about making one, I don't like most I see, but this is just absolutely lovely! I too love purple and have made several purple/lilac quilts, but this is really stunning. Thanks for sharing.
