Red Half Log Cabin: ANy suggestions?

2 Attachment(s)
ok, not a big bragger, but I must say.... I really did a good job piecing this quilt. I only hope that I can quilt it just as well. if I can quilt it really good, I will pay someone to hand bind it for me and see about entering it in a show.

I am going to feather the red/dark for sure, I think I will outline each section/log of the tans/lights. I will do the lights first and then turn the quilt on point on the frame so i can do the feathers without stopping and starting. It will take a while to get done, but i am looking forward to the challenge. It is always hardest to take that first stitch. All the what if's and the second guessing..... but it is loaded on the frame and I will start on it this coming weekend.

If you have any suggetions for quilting the tan/light I would love to hear them.

Thanks

oh, the technique is from the book by Sharyn Craig called Half Log Cabin Quilts.

No suggestions on quilting here either, but absolutely LOVE the quilt. I'm not usually a fan of reds but yours is so beautiful! You did a great job on it -- please post after it is quilted.

looks awesome-can hardly wait to see it quilted

What ever you put in the lighter areas will show up more. Your feathers will work nicely on your gorgeous quilt top. They say you should do something contrasting...feathers and cross hatching go well together. Or a different type of feather maybe with pointy petals instead of rounded? A geometric shape ...diamonds.....straight lines following the color not the patch of fabric. So much to choose from.....good luck with what ever you choose.

Very Pretty. The feathers in the light areas are a good choice. Personally I don't stitch in the ditch well, so I'd avoid that and just stitch the darks with lines diagonal to the patch. Ends up looking just like long parallel diagonal lines, but very effective. I don't have the courage to put the quilt on point on the frame. Have you done this before? Any tips? My starts and stops are usually a bit of a mess, so stitching the feathers continuously would be nice.

Its very nice - I always struggle with the quilting part too - its hard to decide what pattern to use - but you have such a beautiful quilt - it will look good with any kind of quiltiing.

Tweety2911 02-13-2012 06:14 PM

This will be my first large quilt on point. I have Sally Terry's book, "Pathways from Quilt Top to Quilted " and there is a section about it. I really like her books.
