remember those ugly pants? Here's what they are now...

I posted a photo of pants I found at the thrift store - so ugly...but look what I have done with them thus far. I still have to put on the 3 borders and if I have enough I may also piece another border.
It is called the 5 minute block. I like it a lot, what about you?

The floral quilt is the 10 minute block and it will have the purple and white borders added. Talk about colorful....

w7sue 07-21-2012 08:47 PM

Great way to use those pants - who would have thunk?!?!?!?

Rubesgirl 07-21-2012 08:51 PM

That fabric was hideous as pants but you made something really beautiful from it! Just goes to show that there's beauty hidden in everything if you look for it. The floral is lovely and spring like. :)

heather1949 07-21-2012 09:05 PM

Wow that looks awesome, like other one as well, great job.

SewExtremeSeams 07-21-2012 09:10 PM

You certainly turned them into something beautiful.

A lot of people have said that the 10 minute block takes longer than 10 minutes, does the 5 minute block take 5 minutes? Or more? :)

fxsts93kf 07-21-2012 09:11 PM

Very striking! I love the block you chose! Love your floral, can't go wrong with beautiful flowers!

alwaysdreaming 07-22-2012 02:54 AM

OMG, who would have worn those? And who would have bought them now, except a quilter? It looks fantastic.
I just saw the 5 minute block video the other day, yours turned out great. The 10 minute block quilt is very appealling also.

QuiltnNan 07-22-2012 03:05 AM

what's that they say?... cut it up small enough and it's no longer ugly. That quilt is terrific! nice job on the 10 min block too.

Blinkokr 07-22-2012 03:06 AM

You did just terrific, great job and thank you for sharing
Have a Blessed day

You did a great job using the pants, the floral is gorgeous too

gollytwo 07-22-2012 03:29 AM

great transformation

DebraK 07-22-2012 03:29 AM

Well, aren't you clever?! I like to make dimensional flying geese using that folding method.

Tweety2911 07-22-2012 04:42 AM

Goes to show there really is not "ugly fabric" just need an imagination to make it beautiful and you have! Well done! The floral print is in all my favorite colors, beautiful as well!

lisalovesquilting 07-22-2012 04:51 AM

From beast to beauty.

Pink Dogwood 07-22-2012 04:56 AM

Thanks for inspiring us to look beyond ugly...there is beauty in everything. Love what you did with the pants.

DoriDeS 07-22-2012 04:58 AM

All I can say is WOW lolol and beautiful lolol

dlong 07-22-2012 05:04 AM

I think they make a much more attractive quilt than pants.

nangars 07-22-2012 05:34 AM

You made something beautiful out of something not so pretty, it just shows with a little something else in fabric what you can do.

I have tons of fabric, that are in bins and I forget to even look in there went I want something.

Diane007 07-22-2012 05:45 AM

l like the gold in your ugly pants..
cool

Kttyhwk4 07-22-2012 06:05 AM

Great use of some really ugly pants. I'm sure they look better on quilt than on a behind.
Your quilt is really nice, in fact I may have to try this one too.

joyce j 07-22-2012 06:06 AM

Great job. Just the right color for that quilt. You have a good eye. joyce j

quiltsRfun 07-22-2012 06:06 AM

That fabric makes a much better quilt than pants. Your floral quilt is bright and cheerful. This is the kind of quilt I like during the winter doldrums.

#1piecemaker 07-22-2012 06:09 AM

Who would have ever thought it? You have turned a sow's ear into a silk purse! Great job!

Happy Linda 07-22-2012 06:14 AM

I do remember those pants. Great use of them. Love the other quilts as well.

Neesie 07-22-2012 06:20 AM

Fantastic make-over!!!

mighty 07-22-2012 06:25 AM

Great job!!!!!

willferg 07-22-2012 06:28 AM

You really have a gift for seeing things in a different way. I love what you did with the pants.

DebbE 07-22-2012 06:45 AM

That's a standing ovation to our quilting ancestors -- you turned a sows ear into a silk purse, and used very little time doing it. Can't you just imagine what a quilter 200 years ago would say if shown how to do the 10 minute block or 5 minute block? Not to mention all the time saving gadgets we all enjoy. Love the floral quilt. I've got a bunch of floral fabrics from the 80's that I had no idea what to do with -- your quilt gave me some great ideas. Thank you!

patski 07-22-2012 06:51 AM

what a great way to make a quilt and save money! Totally unique and I love both

I didn't time it, but I would venture to say it does only take 5 minutes.

BizzieLizzie 07-22-2012 07:12 AM

They've turned out really nice! Love the 10 min block too!

kittykatz2001 07-22-2012 07:39 AM

Great way to recycle!!

QUILTNMO 07-22-2012 07:43 AM

jojosnana 07-22-2012 07:47 AM

I great use of that fabric!

Helen S 07-22-2012 08:05 AM

WOW! I think you definitely had a vision when you bought those ugly pants! Nice job! I'm in the process of quilting a 10 minute block quilt right now, but think I like the 5 minute block even better!

clawson556 07-22-2012 08:24 AM

That is so. Awesome! Love both of them.

Thanks Char. I hadn't been aware of the 5 minute block before. However, I just watched Suzanne McNeil's youtube video and can see that it would be quick.

Oh dear! those pants were indeed UGLY! But, now, I want to go look through my old ugly clothes and see what I can do with them!

dilyn 07-22-2012 12:33 PM

Oh you clever girl! Those pants have been reborn! Love your floral 10MB too!

Floralfab 07-22-2012 03:16 PM

You have done wonders using the pants fabric. You have made a great quilt. I also like your 10 minute block quilt. It is nice and colorful. Some day I'm gonna try making a 10 minute block. Thanks for sharing.
