Love anything that has to do with water. Your top is really a work of art!
I figured out how to do the pattern right now in my head(it appears to mirror itself inside out like the 2 for 1 quilts I have done). I just need to know how much of the 2 fabrics you use for this size top. If you could let me know I would really appreciate it. Thanks |
Very creative!! I love it!! She will too!! :D :D

Thanks However that does not give you a whole quilt size, that is only the middle block. To help you though I measured the finished block and it end up 24 1/4" x 25 1/2". Therefore if you wanted to make a whole quilt you will have to make your blocks much bigger, sorry I canīt help you there. What we did was sew the two different blocks together, turn one over. Now with your wrong sides up on you left hand block cut from the left hand side the following size strips. 1", 1 1/2",2", 2 1/2", 3" leave the remaining. On your right hand block work from the right and cut exactly the same sizes. Take one strip from your left hand side and 1 strip from your right hand side, pin together. If you have done this correctly you will have a wide strip and a 1" strip. okay. Keep doing this taking 1 from each side. sew all together. Fold over and cut again exactly as before. Its quite difficult to explain so hope this helps. Elle |
Thanks to everyone who took the the time and trouble to write to me I really appreciate that.
I have decided to try and do the rest of the quilt in a similar manner. Hopefully it will work.... to be continued..... Elle |
Elle---your quilt is fabulous. Great colors for the sea and your mermaid, fish and seaweed is fantastic. Can't wait to see the finished project.
After reading how you did it, I looked at your quilt again. I get it now!!! :D |
KD124, Thank you so much. It is a lovely tecnique and would urge everyone to have a try at it. Once you get the hang of it its simple.

Oh Elle, That is so beautiful, I am starting a class on this , can`t wait. Your GD will love it, you gave me an idea for my GD she loves dolphins Jane

You lucky girl, perhaps you will learn something a little different, or maybe the same. Just a little tip I have been given, because there are so many seam at the back of the fabric give it a good steam press before sewing on your applique and apply a vilene backing to your piece and then sew the applique, unless of course your doing the applique by hand which is easier. I machine applique.
Good luck with your course, share with us if you can, Post pics please Elle |
Oh Elle, this style sure seems to suit the mermaid! Its beautiful! I love how you did this one. Great job!!

Thanks Patti, going to put some sea shells on it, DH says he has a ceramic drill to put the holes in the shells which I will then sew on. A bit different, but she will love it.

Izy, I am looking for really tiny ones. But perhaps Colin can take the sharp bits off. I would love to have a look at the shells, perhaps they would be just the job. There are some really tiny pink ones on the beach here in Torrox, so plan to go beach combing soon.
