Hi, we had a tute on the Ricky Timms Convergance at our Club and I thought it would be the ideal background for my next quilt which is for my GD who is 4 years old and loves Mermaids. The Mermaid has a sparkle type fabric which doesnīt show up very well.

This is it so far, not finished and has quite a few borders to go yet, but I better get my skates on as her Birthday is in October.

How beautiful. I have a friend that wants me to make her a mermaid quilt but can't find one she likes. Have to show her this one.

reneebobby 09-11-2008 02:22 AM

     WOW that needs to go into a show too.

Chele 09-11-2008 03:45 AM

Oooh, I LOVE IT! Did you find the convergance technique difficult? I have one of his books, but it looks over my head.

collettakay 09-11-2008 03:47 AM

Beautiful quilt!

What is convergance?

Izy 09-11-2008 03:49 AM

Elle - You done good gal, I love the mermaid, she looks so sweet, you have got the perspective off to a 't' - LOVE it!!

You must be over the moon, or should that be 'deep in the ocean' with it :D

Thats nice, its looking good. I have the book also, but not at all easy to understand :D

Butterflyspain 09-11-2008 03:56 AM

Chele, its not really difficult. Provinding you keep your cutting exact and your seam allowances when you sew to the 1/4" its fine.

We used two fabrics. Basically you cut and stitch twice to get the effect. Really good effect and the ones we did at the club turned out really good. I think the batiks work best with this tecnique though.

Thanks for your comments.

Terri Thanks for you smashing comments.

Donīt think it will be going into a show as we donīt have the shows like you do in the States sadly.

Thanks everybody for your wonderful comments. Justhave to stitch all round those little pieces now.

No it isnīt easy to understand I think you need someone to show you how, but having done it, it is quite simple.

Thanks

Glad you like it though. I liked the tecnique but you really have to have someone show you how to do it.

Colletta, its a type of work that Ricky Timms (Country & Western singer) has developed, he calls its Convergance. He also does one called Raphsody.

Glad you liked it.

It is absolutely gorgeous!

Would it be possible for someone to do a tutorial on this technique here?

Hi Marcia, well I hadnīt till recently, its a nice tecnique and it grows very fast. Made the middle from around 10am till 3am, came home and started putting on the fishes and mermaid.

Definatley going to buy one of the books now I have been shown the basics.

By the way for those who want a mermain quilt there are several on the web in Stained Glass Windows- Just google it and you will get lot of different ones. If anyone is interested in the one I did I will look it up as Izy gave me a picture and I kinda drew a tail on it and faffed around.

Maybe, but it will have to be a bit later on as I have a lot on at the moment, but I could do one.

Butterflyspain 09-11-2008 06:22 AM

Janeen Thanks a lot, think the batiks do the best work on this type of work

Bevanger, glad you like it, it was fun to do.

Bearpaw, its not really hard to do and thanks for your comments.

sspingler 09-11-2008 06:25 AM

It's gorgeous Elle! Your GD is going to LOVE it!
But, LOL, Ricky isn't a Country & Western singer! He is from Texas & now lives in Colorado. He does compose & play music though, and mostly plays the piano. Doesn't really sing too much, most of his music is all instrumental & quite lovely. Some of his newest music has Native American influences in it also.

Moonpi 09-11-2008 07:30 AM

Absulutely stunning! Words fail me!

Well so glad you told me, looked like a Country & Western singer to me and someone told me he was. LOL

purpl7 09-11-2008 09:56 AM

Wow! That is great!

Butterflyspain 09-11-2008 10:12 AM

WOW, thank you all for those wonderful comments, Lynne, cissyquilts, JmīsGem, Calico92402 and PurpleM, really gave me a big buzz that you liked it so much.

Have been trying to think of another option to use the convergance tecnique to put borders on, It realy seems to grow fast when you are using large pieces, cutting them and the cutting again. Its fantastic.

Beautiful! Can't wait to see it finshed.

beachlady 09-11-2008 02:55 PM

You ladies in Spain do such nice work. Maybe I will have to come live there someday!!! Beautiful!!!!

sewsewquilter 09-11-2008 03:05 PM

Stunning! I feel like I'm looking into the sea. To bad you don't have a quilt show to enter it into. It's a first place winner.
