Road to St Louis
1 Attachment(s)
We have a organisation called Bedford Industries here in South Australia which helps to change lives of people with disabilities, through employment, training and independent living programs. There are some lovely ladies who collect donated fabrics, cut them out and put together mystery quilt kits ready for sale as a fundraiser. This is done every 2 years as it takes time for the collecting and cutting. Then these ladies come out to the various quilting groups and show us how to create a lovely quilt - we have volunteers who just do unpicking and ironing seams on the day so that the rest can just sew. This quilt is called the "Road to St Louis" and I have to say I have never unpicked a quilt as much as I did this one. Getting all those points in the right place was extremely difficult and I didn't dare take it to my usual long arm quilter lady because of some of the points. I just stiched in the ditch very wobbly! Definitely looks better from a distance!

Wonderfully done!

Great quilt!
Lovely quilt!
well, it certainly looks lovely from here. I love that it is all donated fabrics. Very nice.
I think it looks awesome!
Dianne, it's a beautiful quilt! You mentioned "wobbly." Years ago I was a faithful watcher of Simply Quilts with Alex Anderson. It was there that I learned about the wobbly stitch for SITD....just set your zigzag to the narrowest, least ziggy stitch and your normal quilting stitch length. Then wobble away along the ditch.
It's an absolutely beautiful scrappy quilt:)!!
That is a beautiful scrappy quilt. Any longarmer would have been pleased to work on it - as a rule they're not as concerned about whether the points all match. I love the border you put on it.
This is lovely. Sounds like a great organization. Aren't quilters great?
Points look good from here! Love your use of value and color in this one. Beautifully done.
Looks great in photos and I'll bet the person who gets it is amazed and doesn't look at where stitching went off the line. Sounds like a wonderful effort and a good cause.
Very nice. You did a great job!
The Road to St. Louis might be wobbly but you did a wonderful job!
It's a really beautiful quilt

I also like what you did. From here, it looks fantastic! Great job. And the recipient isn't going to care that the points aren't all perfect. Guaranteed.
Super group of volunteers, wonderful organization! Your scrappy quilt is beautiful filled with happy colors!
I am swelling with Patriotic Pride as I live here in the suburbs of St. Louis. Never heard of this pattern before but I love the quilt. The colors are beautiful.
Can't figure out why they call it that unless its the history and St. Louis was the starting point for all heading westard. |
I think it's wonderful. I love it. You did a great job - don't be so hard on yourself.
What a great idea for a fund raiser! And your quilt looks great from here.
Oh the quilt is beautiful, and the organization is beautiful too.
beautiful quilt and a great cause!!!!
I can only repeat, beautiful quilt! Points won't matter in the long run. Great job!
It sounds like a wonderful organization and your quilt is just beautiful.
Hey, all your birthday treat folks. Look at this one for a way to use some of our 2.5" squares! I like it!! Has any one found directions for this? I did a quick search and...... found lots "Road to..." patterns but not this one.
What a treat to be part of an organization that is so giving and caring! |
I think you did a wonderful job!
I think it's beautiful.
Very nicely done. And for such a good cause.
Your quilt is very pretty and your source of inspiration is wonderful. We all need to quilt for others in need. I know I love having an outlet for doing something (quilting) that has an outlet-I just like to produce and I certainly have no need of all the stuff I make.
I love all of the colors and think it's a beautiful quilt.
Well, I think it's beautiful and such a wonderful thing to do for that organization.
Beautiful quilt! It looks difficult to do and you did a great job. Love the vibrant colors.
From the distance of Houston, TX, it looks awesome! Love the pattern and the colors.
