Hi thought you might like to see this properly.

I made this from a book called 'Quick Quits to make in a weekend'. It made up really fast - in an afternoon and evening!

I embroidered the butterflies using my Bernina embroidery unit.

I love the colours, my daughter chose them and we bought the fabric at last years Festival of Quilts, in Birmingham (UK not Alabama!!)

In a day? That is amazing - and what gorgeous colours. I have the Quick Colourful Quilts book - I am making one up, and it is taking a bit longer than a day .. .

PurpleBecca 04-10-2010 01:56 AM

It was the technique - all pieced in strips and then the black and striped sewn together and cut up using the 45 degree angel on the 24 inch ruler - very clever - and VERY quick!

rootyr 04-10-2010 01:56 AM

Very nice!

Chele 04-10-2010 03:17 AM

I love your quilt. The butterflies are perfect. How wide were your strips? I think I'd like to try a baby quilt with this pattern.

PurpleBecca 04-10-2010 04:37 AM

The strips were inch and three quarter - before sewing....

Pam 04-10-2010 04:38 AM

Talk about instant gratification! Nice color choices.

Oh my, simply beautiful. Reminds me of the Amish quilts we saw on a motorcycle trip across the USA from Oregon to PA. Did you strip piece it?
Cheers

Well - it is an Amish design (according to my Amish quilt calender hanging on the wall!!!)

Yes I strip pieced it - 1 3/4 inch strips in fives and then measured an average width (turned out to 6.5 inch if I remember) then cut a bunch of black WOF strips that wide and sew both edges, right sides together to the coloured pieces then vut up with the 45 degree line on the 24 inch ruler - easy!!

sewjoyce 04-10-2010 07:36 AM

Wow--it's beautiful! And the addition of the butterflies just "make it"!

Beautiful and your colors are great. Fast and fabulous!

Debbie1219 04-10-2010 07:56 AM

I really like the colors. How old is your daughter? She seems to have a good eye for color. I'm going to look for that book, I need to be able to finish my projects faster than I am now. I agree that it would be lovely as a baby quilt. Maybe in pastel flannels.

I was just going to tackle that in a couple of days. It will take me weeks to do, I can assure you! Interesting pattern. I've only seen the squares going one way before. I like what you've done. It adds some interest.
