This is the quilt I made for Mama's 81st birthday. Her favorite pattern is "stars" and her favorite colors are pink, burgandy, and sage. Please note the label, made by SandPat. Mama told me once, "You don't know it but I'm your best friend." I never forgot that.

There are two sets of attachments.

Alaskan lady 03-24-2009 06:24 AM

Very pretty. Your Mom will be so happy. What is the finished size of your quilt?

purplemem 03-24-2009 06:25 AM

Marvin and I say, "YES!" We have a tiny bedroom for you, but I'll share my beautiful sewing room with you. You are moving in, aren't you?

This isn't just a ploy to get a hand-made quilt, is it?

LOL!

purplemem 03-24-2009 08:32 AM

Mama does love it! She is so proud, she is showing it off to her church!
Thank you for your positive feedback.

Things I learned on this Fun and Done quilt:

16 inch blocks are too big. When it comes to adding borders, the bulk gets in the way. 12 inch is the biggest I will do next time.

Topstitch all the sashing.

Don't add cornerstones. The seams never quite matched up. (Remember, I am a newbie on the sewing machine.)

This was wonderful for hand quilting. Just big enough to do pretty things.

It was great NOT to have to sew on binding (my favorite part!)

pocoellie 03-24-2009 08:42 AM

It's beautiful! I don't blame your Mom for showing it off. It looks like all of us volunteers to give it a home will have to be disappointed.

purplemem 03-26-2009 07:54 PM

Quiltncrazy,
I think I have 3 new "adopted" daughters. And my 9x11 sewing room is getting mighty crowded! But Sammy, the Sausage Dog, is very happy to have new people to play with.

And NO! I will not send this quilt to ANY of you! Go make your own Quilt! LOL!!

alaskasunshine 03-26-2009 08:11 PM

Such a lovely gift! Such a special gift, I just love it. MMMM pink too and stars oh my. Your Mom will be beside herself!
Sweet of you!

JoanneS 03-29-2009 02:44 PM

I read the whole thread before posting this. Gorgeous! I absolutely LOVE the colors and heart theme. I didn't realize it is a 'fun and done.' Is the border also 'F A D'? I guess it must be, because you said you didn't have to do binding. How long did it take? I'm going to have to try this technique!

Jim's Gem 03-29-2009 02:47 PM

Beautiful quilt!!

purplemem 03-29-2009 04:48 PM

Joanne -
This was from Feb 1 to March 20. I could not work on it every day because of health problems. It is truly fast! The borders I pieced, then cut the batting to the border size, then the backing 2 inches larger. I just love this system.
