Round Dresden Plate Tablecloth

5 Attachment(s)
Just mailed off a 60" diameter round tablecloth for my DH's 91-year-old aunt. She uses a 48" round table to eat on (and probably everything else) so I made four coordinating reversible placemats to go with it.

Seems like I learn something from every project, which is good, but just once I'd like to finish something without saying "if I were doing it over again I would do XXX differently." I am curious whether others who make Dresden Plates cut away the bottom layer once the plate is appliqued on (I think mine might have stayed flatter if I had...although it looked fine until I did the quilting).

Regardless, I'm pleased with the results. I am definitely not a perfectionist (done is better than perfect).

I used a large wedge ruler and did the quilting on my Janome 6600 machine. The feathers came out pretty well (better than the center design). I'm learning!

Thanks for looking.

That's really pretty. Hope you don't mind me asking, what size wedge did you use? Also, do you know what the finished diameter of the topper was? I'd really love to make one of those for myself!

Finished diameter is 60". I used a 10 degree wedge ruler (hence 36 wedges, made from 12 different fabrics), wedges cut at the 19" mark (so the Dresden Plate was 38" diameter).
